I'd be genuinely more excited about the hint of a 2.5 year (or even more) for Roberts than I would for Defoe coming back.
Think its more likely it'll be a loan until end season though. At which point I'd hope there's some sort of unofficial pre-contract agreement. Otherwise if he does well he'll likely go higher in the summer if we don't go up

I know he was highly rated as a youngster at Spurs but didn't kick on - much like Cirkin.
It's interesting on one hand he has been poor lately so maybe we don't want to go all in however he is an ambitious lad an undoubted talent and if he performs this season then there will be plenty of people watching waiting to step in I have a feeling he likes the big stage so I'm hopefull he will perform and want to stay

To be fair to LJ, if Defoe want a 6m playing deal and Defoe isn't match fit, then I'd agree, what's the point. He's only worth signing if he will play for 18m.
