I really think it does and I hope KLD gets it done as strikers like him at this level do not come along very often. Wherever he goes he will score goals at this level even at his age. Its a no brainer for me

What if Defoe wants to see out his career dahn sarf, and just said no ta to us?

My Oxford mate thinks he’s chosen there.

All signs are pointing to that for me. Even prehabs use of “final offer” hints at us being wide of his expectations initially and getting closer to it but not meeting it

If JD signs for anither L1 team then we can safely say that KLD etc have no ambition at all. If he signs for another L1 team it shows that we won't/can't compete with others. Have we actually spent anything of note under KLD?

JD will guarantee us goals and for me it will show what ambition the current owner has for us as he hasn't spent anything of note far as I am aware...this is our chance to get out this horrible league

Now I'm not saying that throwing money around in this league is the answer but KLD so far seems to be all fart and no sh@te
Nobody ever guarantees goals mate, not even Defoe. Barely kicked a ball in anger for 2 years. He may get them, he may not be match fit, he may pull a hamstring in game 1. We are one of the top scoring teams in the country, so going into January we would have had different priorities. This came along and we put a value on it and that may not be enough for Defoe. We need a backup for Stewart badly and Defoe could not be that for me. We also need someone who can give Neil the sort of licence that will make us unplayable. I wish Defoe good luck, but for me he was not a priority.

If Defoe doesn't come here, it won't be lack of ambition from the club, because of JD wanting to get into media, it'll be purely Geography.
If by all accounts we’ve made an offer. If JD doesn’t accept it’s up to him. Nowt we can do about it. Club clearly wanted him enough to make the offer.

onto the next one on the list imo.

I've not really posted on this transfer/Defoe much thread at all as I listened to LJ last week say 'a million things need to fall in place'.
Obviously they've not happened for whatever reason. We'll all have our opinions on what they were, and depending on agenda's....will judge accordingly. Imo it's that he wants game time, we can't give him that as we have the leagues top goalscorer in our side. Why leave Rangers where he was a bit-part player to come to [HASHTAG]#safc[/HASHTAG] to....... be a bit-part player.

Taking the red and white nostalgic glasses off, as much as I would like Defoe to re-sign, he is the same as any other player the club talks to. They negotiate and either come to an agreement and he signs or he turns the offer down and we move onto the next target. It's not the fault of the manager or the board/owner or lack of ambition if he doesn't sign
I was speaking to a coach from a scottish club last night and he thinks Defoe is done, past it and thinks we would be wasting our time signing him. You have to remember hes not played this season and, trust me, the standard of the Scottish premiership is L1 level at best. Why has a new manager come in and binned him? Cos hes not interested in sentiment and feels hes not good enough anymore.
I'm.sitting somewhere in middle. If he doesnt sign, I think we should just all accept it and move on and not blame club. If he wants silly money at the age of 39 I think we might be better of spending it elsewhere

I've kept quiet but I'm not concerned at all if Defoe doesn't sign and I think many fans are lost in sentiment rather than thinking this through in terms of what we actually need.

At 39 years old he's simply hasn't got enough left in the tank to be a Saturday/Tuesday replacement for Stewart if he got injured and that's important, hugely important.

It only makes sense to me if we are getting two strikers in this window. One could then be Defoe if the other had an excellent fitness record.

If we are only getting one then I'd see Defoe as a huge risk to be honest rather than a huge positive.
