Does the prospect of Defoe signing this time round excite you more than it did the first time?

Definitely. At the time there were genuine question marks about whether he could still "do it" in the Premier League. Those question marks were proved well and truly complete nonsense, but whilst at the time it was exciting, there was always a feeling of doubt.

This time its just pure excitement for me

Although feels a lot like the M'Vila situation...

i try to keep out of these debates as there are so many variables and quite often a few WUM's looking to see if they can grab a bite or two during the window...

but, defoe for me would seem an excellent deal depending on why he is coming.

in my heart i am hoping for some kind of 'see the season out as stand in/impact sub striker getting to know the lads as you move into the coaching side' deal, fitness i very much doubt will be a problem, ability will never be in question, age might work against him but then this is a couple of levels below his 'usual' so should balance out.

both stewart and broadhead have ability but someone like defoe to 'fine tune' a few pointers would probably add a few goals to their tally and might just be that 'extra yard' we would need for broadhead to take a chance and sign for us permanent (rafa getting sacked might put the mockers on that mind) and the younger lads can only benefit greatly.

so, finish this season and maybe next as a 'super sub' type player (pretty much his recent role north of the border) while gaining his badges, if any are needed, as he settles into his new role...sounds perfect for all parties to me.

I think it does. I wasn't sure about him last time and he was a bit of a hate figure for a time after breaking Craig Gordon's arm but wow what a player he turned out to be
I liked Defoe before we signed him. I used to think he’s abound play more England games but it didn’t quite happen. Internationals need to take chances and he does and i always thought he would cut it.

Good post mate. I'm sure this is it.....he's at the back end of his playing career, but can still do the business for us where we are at the minute, at a lower level. He wants to move on in the game, doing his badges, etc. and knows he can grow with a club like us in that respect. He already has an affinity with us, and us with him, provided the financials can be sorted,it seems a great fit. Example.....Big Dunc at Everton.

Exactly this - remember when he played half a season almost playing as a left back

Yeah and although he was getting on a bit he covered loads of ground and looked as fit as someone ten years younger. I reckon the same will be true now, to a lesser extent but still.

Put it this way - if any of those chances we created 2nd half against Wycombe fall to Defoe we win that game with ease - thats what you get with Defoe - age is irrelevant as his fitness levels are good - he says hes still fit and raring to go - he will also bring a world of experience with him the younger lads can bounce of and think he could do a lot with our young strikeforce - look how much he helped Maja before he went.

Its a no brainer for me.

Me too. Who would you rather bring off bench...o'Brien or Defoe...

Wigan have done the deal for Shinnie. He is a very good signing for them and better than League 1. I had hoped we would have made an attempt to pinch him but not to be. Be interesting to see what we do in that centre mid position because it will be good going to get better

Apparently Nick Barnes said on the Old Total Sport this evening, well more eluded, that the Defoe deal was unlikely.

If Twitter chatter is to go by anyway...
