I don't feel hard done by, because I do think it was a penalty (I'd have had no complaints if the referee had given it on the field). But I don't want VAR being used for things like that - it was hardly a howler by the referee.

And that second goal was a howler from Fraser when we very very much still in the game

Just seen the highlights. It was a game we shouldn't have lost but bad habits returned with individual errors in defence and failure to score when we should have. However, because of the improvements overall this season compared to last season I am inclined to accept it as a bad at the office rather than problems that urgently need resolving this month even the goalkeeper situation.

James Ward Prowse is now the best free kick taker in the world. How he got that in the top corner with a flat trajectory I'll never know.

Exactly. We're not Liverpool or Manchester City. You won't see win after win. But you will see entertaining football and overall improvement.

Would be interested to see the stats for conversion from attempts on goal from direct free kicks. I don't feel like we get many, particularly this season whereas you would assume that Beckham playing for that Man Utd team would have had plenty of chances.

If you're going by PL games then Becks scored his 18 in 265 and JWP has scored his 12 in 288 but no doubt a lot of his games were from the bench and he was competing with Dusan taking them as well.

Yes, usually they fly over the bar when they are hit that hard and from that range.

Have we ruled out the idea that JWP is a literal robot? He’s going to end up at a much bigger club than Villa at this rate, maybe he’s City’s next £100m player. I’d love him to stay with us forever but he’s a threat in literally every game because of his set piece ability and he’s also good at other things. He’d have monster goal involvements numbers at a better team than us.

Plus, he’s a ****ing machine. He plays so bloody much in a season.

I'm too lazy to hunt down the statistics but I would be most interested in the conversion rate of direct free kicks between the two. The best teams tend to get a lot more freekicks in the attacking third and so in theory you would expect that Beckham would have had significantly more attempts from free kicks than JWP. It feels like we've barely had any free kicks in shooting range this season (and yesterdays was barely within shooting range) and yet JWP has scored two free kicks so far. Either way he is incredible and we're lucky to have him swinging them in for us!

That massive prick, Garth Crooks, whilst talking about Conor Coady (in his team of the week) takes the time to say “How long are Liverpool going to wait to buy Ward-Prowse”.

I genuinely dislike that clueless berk, but I don’t get what his issue with Saints is.
How has that got anything to do with Coady at all? And also shows how stupid his selections are - he picks a defender because they scored which, erm, is not their job. By all accounts we created lots of chances that were resisted due to some good goalkeeping and bad luck. Nothing to do with Coady

His whole post was nothing to do with Coady, and all to do with how good JWP's free kick was, and how Liverpool should buy him. It's extraordinary.
