Defoe is 39 and has barely played this season. He's doing his coaching badges now. I doubt he'd play much if he came but I suppose his experience and knowledge would be good for the younger lads.

I certainly wouldn't want him playing instead of Stewart. That would be a backwards step.

He would be playing along side Stewart though...

2 forwards? You'd change our style of play to accommodate a 39 year old bloke who has barely played the last 18 month?

I'm not saying we'd alter our style for anyone.

Defoe can play in a 442...or behind the main striker. He isn't a one trick pony.

I would also like to think Stewart can do the same.

You seem to be giving an opinion that you would turn your nose up at the thought of Defoe returning to the SOL.

I'd welcome him back with open arms as a coach. I don't think bringing him back as a player is a good idea. I've stated my reasons, he's 39, barely played football for 18 months and couldn't manage 2 games a week which is what we do in this league. I wouldn't want him as a bit part player because I think that could hinder the development of our younger lads.

Back in for Sam Greenwood on loan according to someone over the road

It's weird but I wouldn't be happy seeing any of the lads here on loan that left to join another clubs kids.

It would be a kick in the teeth to take a further hand in their development for another club, I know it could benefit us too and should just think about promotion but it's just an odd one.

He may not have played much this season, but he will have trained just like the rest of the Rangers squad.

My point is, he may not be Prem standard these days, but in League 1, he'll stand out well enough, even at his age.

And, as bit part player, as you say....well yes I'd accept that, because in my opinion, I think he would still improve our squad in spades.

I just want to go up. If he’s good enough and scores the goals to get us promoted I couldn’t give a care. What’s happened has happened.

We'll have to agree to disagree, mate.

I don't think Defoe would stand out in this league. I'd say there's a massive difference between training to keep fit and being match sharp from playing in games. Any player we bring in now needs to hit the ground running. I just don't see it with him.

Aye, fair enough marra.

I also think that if he was offered to us by Rangers for the rest of the season, LJ and our scouting hierarchy, would not refuse such an option.
