Yes, taken as a whole I completely agree it's much worse.
However, there are hopeful signs that Omicron is no worse than seasonal flu.
    Maybe that's what they meant?

    Let's hope so..

But the numbers of infections are very worrying.
There are so many of them.

Must admit...today I changed my behaviour...I went by car instead of train...and I love trains

I'm sure you'll have seen signs for this but just in case...

Congestion charge, they're a money-making scheme local councils are enforcing in more and more cities...

Why are they worrying if this variant is very mild?

    Quite.

COVID appears to be the real Project Fear.

Might be just a huge coincidence but everyone i know who has covid seems to have got it after their booster jab. Luckily this does seem to be a milder variant and whether thats due to having a 3rd jab or not is debateable in my humble opinion.

I know loads of people who have had it recently. The two that I know that are in hospital are unvaccinated.....but that's a different debate...

As I understand it the scientists believe it is a weaker variant, regardless of vaccination.
However, being fully jabbed gives far greater protection from any serious illness.

I believe that, if this continues as it is, we need to live with it and get back to as near to normal as possible.

My youngest and his girlfriend tested positive a few days ago.
Have been in contact with him Boxing Day and noticed no symptoms.
He may not have had it then of course.
They both report mild cold symptoms, but they are in their early twenties and healthy.

Long may they stay healthy. One of the issues is, no matter how mild the symptoms, you can still be affected by Long Covid months after you tested positive, even if vaccinated.....trust me, it's not something you want anyone to have to deal with

I think they have been pretty clear about this. It’s because it’s so infectious so many people get it and this has two impacts even if it’s milder:
    - while the proportion of those developing serious disease might be much lower, the absolute numbers are still very big. It’s not milder for everyone
    - isolation rules for the many thousands testing positive lead to temporary workforce shortages

It looks like the second one is having a big impact. Obviously you can’t have an infected nurse or care worker, even if she/he feels fine and has no symptoms, in close contact with people who are already ill with whatever and in a vulnerable condition.

And the isolation rules, together with the vaccination programme showing COVID passes (I was happy to show my pass at the match yesterday) and wearing masks in some very limited situations are all we have I think. Work from home is guidance only. Fine by me, especially if you compare it to the measures elsewhere.

I think he's got his sums wrong. It says two million total cases, not two million a day.

I forget now, but wasn’t that the inevitable consequences of the projections though.

We’re all gonna die unless we put a pair of Val’s old knickers across our faces, you know!

Stan has explained this well but
I have tried to explain this a couple of times before.. high transmitability is worse to the whole population than high serious illness.

Even if omricon is a third as dangerous to the individual if it is 10 more infectious, it will infect many more people than a more deadly virus.

( ebola is a real killer, but it rarely gets out of a small enclave in Africa, as it kills so many of those infected.( 80%) Communities are put in hard isolation, and the symptoms are very obvious...)
The fact so many are asymptomatic is also very BAD. More people are out and about infecting others ( they really don't know, and therefore have no reason to test)... the virus is out hunting the vulnerable and unvaccinated.

On top of the high number of people who are isolating, which seriously affects our infrastructure... it is a very bad scenario.

The only good part is the peak should be high and fast and over soon. A lot of people will get a natural immunity or booster immunity through infection.

After this wave we may be able to treat it at the same level as seasonal flu.
