    Sir Tony ****ing Blair FFS.

Nice honour for the ailing Frank Field, though. Thoroughly decent man.

Apparently at the bequest of the Queen!

The man who betrayed his principles and the principles of many people who voted for him and led the country in to a war by lying.

Some of you bleat about Corbyn destroying the Labour Party...
    no this man did.

Like QPR in the Premiership, the Labour had a chance to change the UK for the good...and blew it... Thank you Sir Tony Blair

He had/ should have had the basic principles of the labour party...
He had first been elected as leader of the Labour Party and then using those principles he was elected as PM.
He extended rather and abolish University fees ...and took us to war.

Like most ambitious politicians, Blair is very much of the “I have a robust set of principles but, if you don’t like them, I have another set somewhere in my drawer” school. He got lucky after John Smith’s passing (who would’ve been a formidable Premier) and then rode the luck of an already improving economy.

What on earth possessed Her Maj to bestow such an honour on this liar is beyond me when she could’ve had him dragged to the Tower instead.

Pretty standard for a PM of ten years.

Before my time, and clearly people will have their minds made up on him due to Iraq or anything else, but looking at it having only lived through it as a kid, standards of living improved considerably under his tenure (probably helped by some luck with the economy). The only real opposition to Iraq, IIRC, was on his own benches. Doesn’t mean it’s ok but does suggest it was probably inevitable.

Domestically, his record seems pretty good, again without really digging into it too much.
Brown at the time would have possibly been a better PM but probably also not a winning one. Sadly we’ll never know what would have happened under Smith.

Tony f##king Blair! I wake up to that! <steam>
    Great start to 2022!
People go on about Boris lying about a party and that #### Blair sent our troops I’ll equipped to an unnecessary war which not only killed our troops but probably a million others.
Bobs right they are all corrupt. Why don’t they give these honours to people more rewarding like a nurse/doctor/teacher or fund raiser.

Some points in this Watford should be addressed in detail.
The only reason there was little opposition to Iraq was because MPs voted on information he provided to the house (WMD). He lied to the public and the house.
Blair and Geoff Hoon then lied about equipment the soldiers had. It was unforgivable that you send our troops into battle having to share ammunition, bullet proof vest and basic clothing.

We all know the horrors of those MPs that didn’t have the ammunition to defend themselves and once beaten to death where stripped and strung up for the World to see.
We also shouldn’t forget the soldier who’s died because it wasn’t his day to have a vest.
All MPs bend the truth and occasionally tell small lies to cover up mistakes… Blair took it to a new level.

People seem to think Blair was a saviour of the NHS and Education?
Plenty of hospitals were closed under his tenure including the Baby ward at Ascot hospital.
What Blair achieved was to turn old buildings into new ones. That’s what he did in your neck of the woods to one of the worst schools. Looked nice after the redevelopment but the teaching wasn’t any better.
He got great education results because he made all exams easier. Remember under Labour ‘no one is allowed to fail’.

His timing was perfect. The Tories were old and stale. Even I thought a change was needed. Blair was all smiles and lies. A Tory in disguise and he played the part well.

    as someone quoted

“Tony Blair has shown himself the most accomplished political actor ever to occupy the premiership”.

He will only be remembered as a toxic leader who took us into an unnecessary war.

The only thing I’d question out of all that was whether Blair was a Tory in disguise. I’d go so far as to say the Tories since are more like Blairites.

Well TBH I have to question the path of Boris as well. Agree, they seem to be adopting some of Blair’s policies.

They've certainly got the lying down to a tee. All the outrage from Tories on here about Iraq makes me laugh. It was the Tory party that backed him in his illegal war. Most of the Labour party and millions around the country (including Piers Morgan's Daily Mirror) could see through the WMD lies.

So you're saying a Labour Prime Minister tells massive and world-changing lies to Parliament, and the Opposition are idiots to believe and support him. While Corbynites, that are so anti-war, they would have appeased Hitler, have the moral high ground.

This is where you let yourself down again Stroller.
    Did you read my post?
I clearly said that Blair mislead the house with false information which they voted on. He lied.
Unlike Captain Hindsight and his army of droids playing politics, back then the Tories supported the government thinking what was presented to them was true… we all know it wasn’t.
You are a losing battle trying to support Blair.
