They certainly aren't grasping the idea of clear and obvious! For me that's like a Maradona hand ball, Rivaldo dive, that sort of thing. Absolutely clear cut, no ref in the world would give it and must have just been completely missed. Instead at that Burnley game they ruled out a goal and gave a penalty even though there was obviously a massive suggestion that it came off the lads shoulder. The VAR decision was wrong imo, and since it was so close they should never have even thought about overruling the decision on the pitch. I know offsides don't have the clear and obvious rule, but they're spending far too long on them as well. Offside was introduced to prevent goal hanging, it was never meant to be forensically examined to see if a player was 1mm off. It takes too long and, in many cases, the technology isn't even accurate enough to ensure the decision is right. I think if you watch the replays available, freeze at the time the ball is kicked, and can't tell with the naked eye whether the player is off they should go with the decision on the pitch. VAR should only be used when there's almost no one who would disagree with the decision. Currently every weekend there's questionable or just plainly wrong decisions.
Absolutely awful, we are spending more time talking about the system rather than the game. Need to get rid now.
Which in itself is questionable. Is it considered kicked when the foot first touches the ball or when the ball leaves the foot? That slight time difference could be quite significant the way they seem to be scrutinising the offside's.
Madness Vince. From my viewpoint if was well over. This may be a daft question but as the keeper was smothering the ball would this affect the technology seeing if it was over the line?
Hawkeye apologising, that's nee good to sheff utd who should have had three points. They should be given the points, not an apology.
Too reliant on technology, surely the linesman could have seen the ball was well behind the goal line , if there was any doubt seek advice of VAR that is why we have it It would be interestIng to know how much testing the goal line technology had after not being used for over 3 months . Really tough on Sheffield United though .
The officials are relying to much on technology And not efficient enough in there job Attention to detail I like to think people have when there at work
Why do they only check var sometimes There was a clear free kick just outside the box and booking but they never checked var Then they bring the game back rewind and find a foul to disallow a goal Not consistant
