I think there should be a cap on what we are ready to pay, another contract for MO Salah will likely end his career at Anfield. He deserves to be rewarded for being a good servant, but we cannot pay him what we cannot afford and likely to regret in future.
He is the best player in the world for a few reasons one is because of the work he has done and effort he has put in in two because of the team he is in two is the most important by miles as I have voiced before I am never comfy when players start like this No need at all to involve the media imho Unless we have money to perpetually throw down the toilet we have to let him go if he won’t sign within our structure. Now it’s out in the public domain LFC are the bad guys whichever way it goes and Salah or HIS group have orchestrated this It is no coincidence- very very tricky situation now
There's a big disparity at the moment anyway and all seem quite happy. Virgil is reportedly the highest earner and Mané is on half of what Salah gets paid. I expect Mané to get an improved deal when his is up for negotiation but I can't see him angling for a Salah level contract. With absolutely no actual facts to back up my opinion, I think the team would be happier for Salah to get what he wants and to keep him than for any of them to augment their salaries and lose him. I don't think we have any mercenaries in the squad. I don't think giving Salah a big raise sets any kind of precedent unless it's that the next time we have the best player in the world in our team, then they too can have what they want.
IMO they are pros who know that the timing of the contract determines what they get and its not easy break out of the cycle unless you are in demand. The players and agent will know full well that the market rate is at the time and its not really like you or me looking at each other over a 5k pay difference They go in and negotiate the best available contract. I would say mane is hopeful salah gets done and he can pile in and take advantage. I would personally be asking my agent why didn't he get me the best deal not what is that guy on more than me etc. Now if the club went and say bought in another player and paid them higher than me and let my contract run down i'd not be too happy but it'd be with the club again. Its entirely down to commercial negotiation here.
This is the problem. What you think (and even if I agree with you) isn't necessarily what they think. We have to look at what might happen, as opposed to what we want to happen. Players, or rather their agents, may have a rather different opinion of their value than any of us. I've watched football now for well over half a century - owners, managers and great players come and go, but the biggest threat to the stability of our club has not been the loss of players, but bad management. The club has to decide what works best for the medium and long-term future - it's odds-on that whatever they decide, some of us will vehemently disagree.
Or it tells players we are the perfect club for top players to develop into superstars whilst offering plenty of opportunities at winning trophies. We make a tidy sum on them that can be recycled into the next one. Only players we miss out on are ones that are only interested in money.
What if we don’t win anything this year? 2 years no trophies. Sold our best player. To me that says the club isn’t the best club in the league and not competing in Europe and is selling its best players to other clubs so is going to be even less competitive.
Underestimate him at your peril. Mo has had a cleaner living than Ronaldo and i think since tasting the prem and the cl and tge personal accolades on the way that hes developed the same cold blooded determination that has taken Ronaldo to his level, im not saying mo can get there... deffo not in numbers anyway, but he truly believes he is the best player in the world now, you can see it in his body language and his performances and the way he speaks on camera and on social media. Personally id give him another 5 years with no worrys whatsoever that he will be at this level or near.. Or beyond for the remainder of that contract.
You also have to remember what he’d bring off the field not just on it. Huge commercial figure in Egypt. Brilliant branding for LFC. Players will want to join to play alongside him. He seems a very popular member of the squad so great for harmony. Younger players like a Jones, Elliott, Gordon should be watching every thing he does and learning from him in training.
Disregard money for one moment - I just want LFC to be the destination for the best players to come, the best young talents to come and develop, and ultimately I want us to win every trophy going. I think we send the wrong message out if we can't afford to keep our best player, who is also the best player in the world. Are we a serious footballing institution or just one to do a few shrewd deals, pick up a couple of trophies along the way but more interested in balancing books?
Think that we all want Salah to stay. Reality is though that we are not a major financial power and have to live within our means. We will have a very strict salary structure to avoid losing control of player wages as a % of turnover. So unless turnover has increases massively, I cannot see huge changes….although I really hope I’m wrong!!! Mo is also an asset that is currently depreciating every week…so….I’m afraid that as much as I want him to stay, it may not be possible for him to do so. It sucks but such is life.
I'm not sure I share your outlook on this - especially as it's not down to players alone, we know what agents are like when they sniff a killing.
No point in whatiffery, anyone can counter that with a different what if. The point is, it matters not what any of us think, FSG will weigh up the pros and cons according to what they think is most in their interest, and act accordingly.
In other jobs, I would agree with you but every player in every team knows that there is a hierarchy of salaries. They sign on for what they are happy with and it increases depending on their performances not on what other players are getting. I really don't see how a player could sign up to a deal knowing that other team mates are on more, possibly double or triple and then kick up a fuss somewhere along the line when the top earners are getting more.
I really think you underestimate the lengths ronaldo goes to. There is the same level of elite professionalism there but time waits for no man and the cliff is coming. Be it 5 years or 3 nobody can tell which is why the contact is a risk. I'm sure salah would want a new 5 year deal but lfc might be hedging at 4. Who knows. The issue for me is salah is salah. He is not worth as much to lfc as messi was to barca or ronaldo was to real whether that is down to later blooming or liverpool being not in the same tier or whatever. As I said before. Put milner out to pasture and there is 150k to pay salah 350k. Get shut of ox or keita and theres another 120k. In the end it's not really about the cash par se but out what's the best team long term. I would say salah is one part of the jigsaw but not the total indispensable force cos if the side doesn't function he gets no ball. Like last year. The deal has to make commerical sense as well and unfortunately I dont think Salah's image brings in enough. If he got fifa world player of year or scored 50 goals or won the cl again maybe.
Usually its people already there who feel entitled. So you move them on sharpish as they've shown their lack of character. If a player has a strop cos his cotewct is a year old and someone comes in on more and feels threatened or slighted then his character just doesn't fit lfc.
