This probably means that he was available for the Newcastle job. I hope he was approached and turned it down. Good PL experience now with Villa for him to build his career on.

Ox and Thiago - yes I would agree. But with Thiago, he is a world class footballer so you make some exceptions. Even with Ox, he started pretty well and was playing himself into form until his injury.

Keita's injury record was absolutely fine before joining us.

But thank you for highlighting the exceptions, and proving my rule :)

Think it’s a good move for Gerrard. Experience in the Prem and with a club who could sneak up the table with some good transfers.

Wouldn’t say it’s a huge risk for Villa. Guy went a season unbeaten and has 3 years experience plus has Gary Mac along side him (assuming he comes with gerrard). He will have huge pull in transfer market as well, even though he’s a rookie manager he’s was a world class player and players will want to work with him.

Going to get one hell of a reception when he arrives at Anfield with villa in a few weeks times.

not really man. You can't make an exception cos a guy is good. if he's sat in the treatment room his wages are a millstone round our necks.

Ox was well known for injuries before ever coming here. as was keita and as was Thiago. milners has not broken down and is over the top no matter what people say about his other fine attributes. He's had injury after injury.

As i've said before these buys lock in the issue for years to come after they are made and when you compound it then with wijnaludm going you turn round and see 3 or 4 guys on big money who can't stay fit and have no room to manoeuvre.

If anything we are still over weight in terms of central midfielders and over weight in terms of once who just want to run forward. the fact is not one of them can stay fit.

I pointed out to you a few weeks back that Thiago does not have a significant injury record, its urban myth mate. Similar with Naby.

    Look at the stats.

You're dismissing Edwards's legacy because of 2-3 players. He helped to assemble one the best teams the world has seen IMO (our CL and PL winning teams were so good).

actually i'm just being consistent and insulting him for no reason :)

Klopps assembled a decent side. Edward is just along for the ride.

Klopp demanded matip, demanded VVD, demanded alisson, demanded mane (watch him for 3 years at salzburg), demanded wijanldum.

At best you could give robertson, salah and firmino and maybe fabinho to the scouting team (not edwards) As klopp has openly said he was convinced on these guys or they preceded his time.

Anyway best ever seen is a wild exaggeration.

I maintain that our team between 2018-2020 is one of the strongest teams ever to play football. We pretty much every single game up until securing the title lol.

Two 90+ seasons, 2 major honours plus the Super Cup and World Club Cup. Imperious defence, engine like midfield and ruthless attack.

Edwards deserves some credit for that.

so you are rating it over

    a) city team that won treble
    b) Utd teamthat won x,y,z
    c) Barca team??
    d) Ac milan team of 1990s
    e) about 5 LFc teams that won as much and more.

It was a strong team but "ever to play" is a wild exaggeration.

You said I was ranking it over them? I merely said it was one of the best teams in the history - our LFC team is certainly up there. Broke so many records during 19/20.

Theres cant be loads of best teams in history. It's a very select group.

Lfc have had 1977, 1984 and imo 1988 teams and then the team you are talking about.

    Take your pick like.

As for great sides the multiple treble winning barca have had 2 teams Peps and enriques both certain players. Bayern have had a couple teams. Real.madrid could point to a few.
    Juve could, etc etc.

I couldnt call a team with henderson and wijnaldum in it one of the greatest if all time :bandit:

Don't forget the Ajax team of the early 70's which was an undoubted great team .

I’d go along with the thought that the 19/20 team is one of the best Liverpool teams I’ve ever watched. We totally dominated teams and dropped very few points. We are not that team anymore though but if that success had been sustained for another couple of years with a couple more trophies, they would have been the best ever Liverpool team and EPL in my lifetime imo. I cannot rate them against foreign teams like Barca or Madrid as easily. Certainly both of those teams have been magical in the last 15 years.

Yeah that's fair but you are not saying best team ever there. Just one of the best lfc teams ever.

It was the best prem liverpool team by a country mile. I say was as I agree we have the same names but are simply not that team. The balance of the side and the hunger is gone and some have aged.

I'd still say 1988 team we had was absolutely stonking.

And then theres dominant paisley sides.

But there have been god like sides across europe in every decade that I couldn't put out 19/20 side up against without seeing gaps.

I'd love to see it up against peak pep barcelona cos a high press against that lot would be something to see. Barca defence could be got at back then too. Itd be some match.

All fair comments. With the exception of City, The previous couple of years, I cannot recall any LFC or any other top flight english team dominating like we did during our PL winning season. I just wish that they’d broken the points record because that would be a real legacy - we dipped when the season restated and I am 100% sure that we would have done that without the break to the season…and I also wish we’d sustained it for a couple of years more. Unfortunately Covid and serious injuries got in the way and like you say, legs have aged - We were relatively lucky with injuries those two years and I do believe that the way Klopp demands football is played, we need a City like squad and good rotation to sustain success.
