If Gerrard needs to prove himself in the PL, what better job is he going to get than Villa to do that?

    None.

He doesn't need to get a job in the prem to prove anything to anyone.

The issue here is theres an underbelly of lfc fans who dont say it loudly but they dont want him as manager as they dont think he is up to it. I've heard quite a few quietly remark it.

Not sure he needs to prove something to fsg etc either. He could go to germany for example or a cl club in europe and show what he can do either.

But I said this in the summer once they crashed in europe, he should get the **** out of rangers before it ends in tears. Hes won the title there so it should be onwards and upwards in his own mind.

I say this in the context that it's very possible his side crashed.out of the group stage of europa as they are 3rd right now on 4 points, level with sparta Prague.

And with the new man in at celtic they are not exactly exploiting the learning curve and are actually letting celtic close up recently.

Have never heard that myself. I think that there’s an acceptance by just about every Liverpool fan that I know that he will manage us one day. Many think he needs to prove himself first, like I do, but none don’t want him. Hope he makes it!

Yes, there is a thought that he will eventually manage Liverpool, he'll need to price himself at a higher level than Rangers before that happens. If it doesn't? He'll still need to prove himself before progressing anywhere beyond that.

Liverpool fans thoughts have little to do eighth it.

Plus, maybe he'd like to prove it to himself? Maybe he as ambition?

Candidly speaking Gérard will enjoy managing Liverpool after all he spent the whole of his professional career with Liverpool. Even when Chelsea came with an offer he did not leave because of his love for Liverpool.

Think it's an odd choice for both Villa and Gerrard and full of risk for both too.

From their point of view if he turns out to be not up to it then they will get dragged into a relegation battle. And from his then he's joined a club whose board has unrealistic ambitions and whose fans are deluded about their place in the pyramid.

Be interesting to see it play out. My gut says it'll end in tears and will be gone by next Christmas.

If i were him i'd try to expand my horizons and getting to CL football elsewhere. Quite how he might get a job where he could do that I am not sure though. The European leagues are sewn up but a few clubs so you won't see his name get him a job in germany for example.

If he comes to villa all he proves if he succeeds is he can manage in england i nmidtbale.

In fairness the reason rodgers is being mentioned for Utd is cos he won the FA cup. he has zero european pedigree. Maybe gerrard could actually try in a cup with that villa squad.

Have to agree with you on villa. thier fans seem to think they are richer than everyone bar the oil clubs but their wages and fees don't bear it out.

It's a shame Michael Edwards is leaving, and I hope he gets a good send off at the end of the season. He helped build a fantastic backroom staff of scouts and scientists which gave us an almost flawless record when it came to transfers.

This will now be a true test of how well the system works when we remove one big component (Edwards). In theory, we should continue to operate efficiently but time will tell.

Gerrard has left Rangers. Assuming he does end up at Villa, will he pinch any players from Rangers in January. Are any of them Prem quality? As I do not follow Sottish football I could not tell you.

Our hit rate in the market is a big reason for why we are now one of the best teams in the world.

    Allison
    VVD
    Robbo
    Matip
    Fabinho
    Gini
    Mane
    Bobby
    Salah

    To name a few :)

Not saying that he's been perfect and I wish we would have beefed up the squad more, but we have some truly world class players whilst spending quite little.

he burned bridges saying he was open to it so I presume this is done and dusted.

the short answer is IMO no, not one player at rangers would walk into that villa side.

vilal's problems are in defence and midfield imo.

they have el gahzi, watkins, ings, beundia for up top. I think they need to add a CM and better full backs and get to work at the style of play more than anything. Smith was supposed to be good defensively but this season it was a disaster . if gerrard can get them to play actual football and such they will improve no question.

Thiago is world class when he plays, and Keita was touted to be one of the best midfields prior to signing. There was no issue with the identification of those players.

Thankfully Robbo has been world class for many years prior to losing form. Was influential in winning the CL and PL.

We should never have agreed for Keita to stay an extra year at Leipzig as that pretty much always seems to result in a loss of form .
Oh and Thiago has not been world class for us ,
