Honest question. What is the biggest cause (not country) of the problem? Cars? Factories? Energy production? Honest question?
I look around my house and compare it to ten years ago and I have maybe 3 times as many electrical devices in the house. I would assume everyone may be similar so I guess that’s a concern.
Indeed that’s where I was going towards really. That and possibly even good production and waste: I mean we literally are eating as a world population 4 times as much meat and processed foods was we where 25 years ago and when you multiply that but the increase in world population then that must contribute. I do believe we have a serious problem here. I would welcome life changing actions.
Is there still a vast amount of them now. Honest question again. We maybe don’t have them in the uk now but China and the like maybe do.
Think about where all the cheap ****e comes from? Whether that's electronics or clothing. It all comes from China
Australia has a large reliance on fossil fuels ie coal as it has a large coal industry which supports a lot of jobs. Australian politicians are too busy looking short term and don’t want to take on the potentially unpopular task of moving away from coal usage. Yes, China and the USA are integral in addressing the problem but the rest of the World can’t afford to wait for them to get on board.
The burning of fossil fuels. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/climate-change/causes-of-climate-change
My understanding is that it is. But it needs action and brave politicians. I doubt whether the World’s politicians are brave enough or far sighted enough to take the action needed. On a very simple level think of all the extreme weather incidents that have been reported in say the last 12 months alone. It’s not a coincidence, it’s a consequence. https://www.theweek.co.uk/news/environment/953574/worlds-most-extreme-weather-events-2021
The problem is that for most politicians (especially in populist governments) that making big changes is political suicide. Therefore the soundbites will be uttered and in the background the donors in the traditionally big money businesses that focus on profit over all else will continue to do what they've done for decades. Only when action on climate change becomes more of a vote winner than policies that sound good but don't have substance or backing will action be taken by governments.
Spot on mate your quite right. There is no money to be made in fixing climate change. So someone else can deal with it.
Australia is one of the worst CO2 producers on planet earth, their coal industry is massive and lobbies a lot.
So 49% due to Agri and heat and electric. I understand the heat and electric element. But I can’t get my head around the agriculture side. Unless of course it extends to the post animal/crop production stage.
There are lies, damn lies and statistics... My industry (agriculture) is being made the scapegoat here and there is **** all I can do about it! I could go into detail and bore you with facts and figures as to how agriculture is a big carbon sequester but it's not very interesting and I can't be arsed to be honest!
Isn't a lot of that percentage made up by change of land use? Not so much the agricultural practices themselves, but deforestation in parts of the world to make way for cattle ranches?
