The football world moves on quickly and tomorrow there will be some other scandal that we all fuss about. Or Ronaldo will fart and beeb will switch focus to that. People were pissed off with Chelsea when Abramovich came in, and the same with Man City. All that has been forgotten.

What's particularly bad about this is all the Newcastle fans who don't care one iota that they're now owned as a sportswashing vehicle by a regime with appalling human rights, is committing systematic genocide in Yemen, is involved in murdering journalists, treats women like second class citizens and LGBTQ rights are non existent, but none of that matters so long as you can spend £50 million on one player, but instead they're celebrating like it's the best thing to ever happen. Whatever you might think about Ashley, at least he's never been involved in murdering anyone. Though saying that, most of the anti Ashley stuff just reeks of entitlement by fans, god forbid that an owner runs the club sensibly and doesn't throw money around like it's going out of fashion. No, can't have a lack of ambition or anything like that....

Also what's annoying is how some Newcastle fans seem to think they're so hard done and have suffered so much. I mean, no club has ever suffered as much as Newcastle right?
Posted virtually the same comment on Facebook in reply to my in laws celebratory post about the takeover. Off the Christmas card list, then. Going to be an interesting conversation with my Toon mate next time I see him. Really awful decision. Citeh fans will be feeling righteous now.

Sad but true. The race to the bottom is everywhere, sport, politics, religion. Im holding out for a hero.

No, because it's more fun to support a winning team.
If you think, Newcastle are suddenly going to become Top 6 any time soon, think again. It will take them at least five years to become even a Top 10 club, and even with Saudí backing it is difficult to them passing the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa let alone muscling in on the Top 4. It ain't gonna happen.

They will pass Villa, Everton and West Ham by the end of next season. There's no reason why they don't finish top 7 from next season onwards.

If they do finish Top.7 next season, I will buy you a great bottle of wine. They don't have the infrastructure at the moment either on the pitch, youth setup or off the pitch. And those other teams won't be idle either. So if Newcastle are sleeping giants, I would say they are dwarfed by West Ham, let alone the obvious bigger clubs.

mate have you seen how rich their owners are?

They DWARF Man City, which is unbelievable in itself. Obviously FFP will slow them down, but I would not be surprised at all to see them top ten next season.

Spend big money on a manager, a CM and some full backs and they will be top half easily with maximin and Wilson’s firepower

If I was a Newcastle fan I would probably have some reservations about the new owners, but I don't like the way sport and particularly football is expected to uphold standards that politicians ignore. If we as a country had a complete trade embargo with the Saudis and Newcastle had done a deal of their own, I think it should be rightly condemned. But far from embargos we have trade deals with SA (imports and exports) worth £8.5 billion, China £93 billion and Russia £14.6 billion.
Newcastle FC are responsible for their own actions but we all live in a country apparently happy with our trade partners.

This. They have the money to sign anyone on the planet. They just don't have the reputation and ability to offer CL football - yet.

Yeah Newcastle’s aim should be to survive this season (should be relatively straight forward if they spend big in Jan) then be looking to break top 10, maybe top 6 next season.

FFP they can just ignore like most other clubs and only seems to be relevant once you qualify for Europe

JWP and Livramento to Toon then?

Good luck to them. Someone breaking the monopoly of the so called big 6. Anything that pushes Man U and Liverpool down the league can only be funny. Annoying for me as my best mate of 30 years is a Newcastle fan. I just like to see the glory hunters lose out on winning anything.

Na in this instance they literally have accepted an actual known murderer as their owner with street celebrations.

I mean unfortunately I imagine there would probably be some similar scenes here if a multi billionaire who actually wanted to invest turns up and I don’t fully blame them for the partnership as the U.K. conducts business with Saudi Arabia and considers them an ally.

But I think there is some kind of line being crossed here. Although I know there are issues with PSG and Man Cities owners too, but this one is a level above.

If it happened here I admit it wouldn’t stop me from supporting Saints, but celebrating this in such an outward manner is a poor show and it will do more harm for the PL than good. Before too long we will all need international Governments to invest to even stand still.

Yeah those Newcastle fans outside St. James Park letting off flares and drinking beers are an embarrassment. I'm sure it's a small minority, and it's obviously a statement tinged with jealousy, but get a grip lads, and have some f*cking scruples. At least pretend to have some respect for all the victims of the Saudi regime, even if inwardly you don't care.
Unfortunately I think that’s a reaction to getting rid of their last owne and a little mis guided reaction to the new. All very sad actually. Standard 80/20 rule. 80% of us would be happy if same happened to us. That’s just today unfortunately. Same for climate, welfare, wildlife, planet …..
