Am I terribly out of order to suggest they could be adrift before they’re able to bring in any ‘star’ players in January?
Would be brilliant if they got relegated after all this. Still, this will likely just mean another club with almost infinite resources. So the rest of the teams can battle it out for the all important 8th in the league - oh joy
nah, sorry Tom but being owned by a country where the death penalty and amputation are used as punishments, where women are treated as second class and immigrants are disposable labour would take the edge off the fun for me. This whole NUFC takeover stinks and it’s another step down an awful road for sport.
Just realised something - Gao wouldn't pass the owners and directors test that the Saudis have just passed. So in the eyes of the Premier League he's a less suitable owner. Let that sink in for a minute lol.
Very much but not wanting the Saudis is not the same as supporting the Chinese. Plus Gao is one individual not a state sanctioned consortium and we have seen exactly nothing from him so can hardly call it blood money and he is a majority shareholder not the outright owner. This Saudi consortium is awful and I hope it fails, not for Newcastle but for football.
I'm really pleased for "the best fans in the world". They've had it so hard in recent years, what with those three consecutive relegations, administration, and never spending a penny. They deserve this. I wonder how long it will be until they start complaining that they aren't signing elite players, or qualifying for the CL.
Haha I said this on another board yesterday. This should be a decent test of "We don't expect to win, we just want to try" theory.
Sunderland fan in peace here. You have no idea what it's like up here at the minute, they're unbearable at the best of times... but this is next level.
Well it’s just another club that has vastly more resources than us. We must be basically bottom in the league on that front
What's particularly bad about this is all the Newcastle fans who don't care one iota that they're now owned as a sportswashing vehicle by a regime with appalling human rights, is committing systematic genocide in Yemen, is involved in murdering journalists, treats women like second class citizens and LGBTQ rights are non existent, but none of that matters so long as you can spend £50 million on one player, but instead they're celebrating like it's the best thing to ever happen. Whatever you might think about Ashley, at least he's never been involved in murdering anyone. Though saying that, most of the anti Ashley stuff just reeks of entitlement by fans, god forbid that an owner runs the club sensibly and doesn't throw money around like it's going out of fashion. No, can't have a lack of ambition or anything like that.... Also what's annoying is how some Newcastle fans seem to think they're so hard done and have suffered so much. I mean, no club has ever suffered as much as Newcastle right?
nor did the Saudis who will actually be in control because they’ve engineered it to be removed. I’d take that with a total pinch of salt
Yeah those Newcastle fans outside St. James Park letting off flares and drinking beers are an embarrassment. I'm sure it's a small minority, and it's obviously a statement tinged with jealousy, but get a grip lads, and have some f*cking scruples. At least pretend to have some respect for all the victims of the Saudi regime, even if inwardly you don't care.
