I know you aren't defending him, this is still plenty for a taxi to work/airport/hospital say 5 days a week and saving enough money to build a small rented property empire, possibly the easiest living on the planet. After playing football of course.

Players do often go bankrupt though, he'll have a nice house and expensive cars. They go into punditry because they HAVE to, not because they want to.

I have a nice house and a nice car. I earn £28,000 a year but I won't be going bankrupt.

Doubt Shearer HAS to do punditry.

I'm all for backing players, however if you break the rules you pay the price whoever you are and whatever your excuse.

Because you're most likely careful with your money and wont retire in your early thirties. Not true of footballers.

They dont always have to, but if they dont continue to work they run out of money attempting to continue the luxurious lifestyle they get used to when playing.

That is entirely their own fault though. If you are unable to figure out when is a good time to stop spending excessively on a luxurious lifestyle then you deserve to go bankrupt.

Quick discussion on it on The Wright Stuff this morning, there's little sympathy though Martin Kemp has no issue with footballers being highly paid. £10,000 a week is the stated wage, reckon that'd pay for a taxi.

    Note: I'm working from home...

I would be pleased if he went, dont rate him at all....gives us nothing going forward and constantly backs off strikers and lets them get the shot in....we could get a lot better!

So obviously in your sheltered life you've never experienced the sure tourment of having to get to work by any means other than your own car? You truely are a lucky man, no wonder Danny Simpson isn't happy!

Pah, I've bussed, trained, even planed once, not to mention driving through County Durham in the snow, and paid two speeding fines doing 33 and 34 in a 30 in my poor student days. I laughed at Danny Guthrie when he said the same, and now I laugh at Danny Simpson.

can anybody remember in the last transfer window on deadline day when everyone was saying he was off to villa but they brought hutton instead that might be why we brought santon because we expected to sell simpson and that is why he thinks he will be transfer listed and when he came off for santon against tottenham he didnt look to happy about it

I can't fathom anyone thinking 'we're losing Danny Simpson, lets sign one of the worlds best young full backs', but if anything it should push him to raise his game rather than getting in a huff about it. He cruised into a Championship team with no competition, but we need better than that now.

It's not utter ****e at all! It's true - the majority of footballers don't earn a decent salary after their careers are over. Whether or not that's their fault is your opinion but the fact remains.

I'm not defending him at all and I think it's his fault, I'm just wondering whether the criminal system should be based on how much people earn? Depends if others wiould get off this charge if they were on a lower salary, which I think is wrong, I don't think earnings should have anything to do with punishment for a crime.

Wow, that'll teach me to play devils advocate anyway, pretty angry response!

To be fair I think this was always happening. He is another to have got the wrong side of the board with tweets, he's our weak link and they were willing to seel him to Villa in the summer before Hutton agreed terms. I like him in that he's a 100% man but I think he is limited, certainly with the ball. He has no culture to his game at all. Played well of late to be fair. We weren't signing Santon as a left back, I've maintained that from day 1 having watched him in his natural role at right back. His versatility was just a stay of excution for Danny boy!

Didnt Danny post a pic of his "New Ride" on Twitter a couple of wheels a couple of weeks ago? A Black Bentley Coupe!! I believe this replaced his Audi R8!!!

Real it in Danny - you're not living in the real world. You're paid very well for being distinctly average at your job (Was plop all afternoon at Wolves!).

Still - I do feel for his situation with his daughter.

Agree with this. People are completely jumping the gun.

Also for people going on about money, Simpson only said he couldn't afford to be chauffeur driven. It's not like he's wingeing about not being able to put food on the table.
