Liverpool to expand Anfield ...

... by adding 7,000 seats to the Anfield Road stand which will mean a capacity of around 61,000.

They'll need to improve the surrounding area, which is dire, and local transport.

I doubt things will improve much for away supporters, it's a poor place to go.

One positive is that the Mags will have their noses pushed further out of joint ...

... just like that of their manager

 

Wonder how much that's going to cost them all in? Will highlight again what a fantastic job Bob Murray did for us.

Done the ground tour there a couple of years ago. Its impressive, they'd just finished the extension on the huge stand. They were using temporary changing rooms at the time. Still good.

 

Two years ago, back row of Anfield road end. Could barely see the half way line when I stood up.

 

It'll end up looking similar to Old Trafford where its the original ground with expanded bits built and stuck on.

 

Remarkably similar at Goodison Park tbh.

That's s shocking view if they don't warn you in advance. Will only become worse when safe standing is set up.

 

i find this strange as every owner will tell you gate revenue is now such a small part of turnover compared to other forms now (premier league, obviously) so is it all about getting more in than others, bragging rights or what...to add 7k seats is possibly going to be one hell of an expensive venture at an older ground as the structure has to be able to hold that extra weight, i mean there is the weight of the actual construction needed then 7k people, i would guess with all ages possibly a low average of 12st extra per person i wonder if it will ever pay for itself...while it is romantic to keep hold of 'the old grounds' it would possibly make better economic (and safety?)sense to build a new stadium.

look at sid james now, stacked probably beyond it's real safe capacity just to make sure they have more seats than the SoL, it looks a disorganised mess as if bits have just been 'bolted on' here and there as time passed, the structure (by all accounts) is beginning to show strain and really needs work..i am surprised the likes of old trafford and anfield have not been rebuilt, even if they move temporary to another ground and demolish/rebuild in the same place for the more romantic fans, but even that would be a new ground i guess they could at least keep the same name.

did not use sid james just because of who plays there but it does seem a prime example of why not to keep adding to an older ground...the SoL was designed to be expanded easily if and when needed so we could, in theory, go to the 60k and the ground itself would look better.

 

More seats isn’t just the ticket sales the markup on scran and bait is eye popping, plus extra sponsorship for the boards non- camera facing.

 

To be fair, it did say restricted view, but I assumed I’d be behind a post or something. Restricted view is a bit of an understatement when you can only see half the pitch.

 

Gate income may be less important at the top but the clubs daren't say it too loudly in case they drop through the leagues ...

... the advertisers need to see big gates to encourage their money.

Watched the Big Match Revisited yesterday….. Crystal Palace v Man City….,we were on it in the highlights…. beat Chelsea, think it was 1979?….., but, the point I want to make is the interview after the match with the two managers….,Malcolm Allison and Terry Venables……you just would not get that or anywhere near it today!

fair point actually, guess with it being more business orientated then being able to house bigger crowds keeps the shareholders happier...all they understand are numbers.

 

I never used to bother with that programme but watched that Sunderland v Chelsea game and was hooked ...

... the crowds, the grounds, the atmospheres were all different and it was all so unpredictable.

I've recorded the whole series and am loving it.

Aye will be a rebuild with a load of corporate space in, they make a lot of money there.

Real Madrid actually decreased overall capacity with their rebuild to get more boxes in.

They only reduced it by 1 like

 

Annfield is a dump... they would be better off doing an Everton...build new somewhere close.

 

I wouldnt mind chipping in if they wanted to build a new stadium but I would insist it was built in the Irish Sea.
