I guess due to what we had at the end of the Sheepshanks era it feels different to what I'm used to, where the Sheepshanks and Manager are the public face with the CEO Derek Bowden more in the background just getting on with things... and this has definitely been the Mark Ashton show with Cook and O'Leary more in the background.

What's the point of having a Chairman if the CEO is going to be the figure head of the club. Alot of the names mentioned in this thread have been Chairman not CEOs and there is a difference. Ashton clearly knows what he is doing and says the right things, I'm just cautious (perhaps read too much about his time at previous clubs) that he doesn't over step the mark in terms of his responsibilities.

This is clearly better than the situation we've been used to, I think we've actually probably had some decent manager in the ME era but they've all cracked because they've had no one else to hide behind.

Well every club, every company is unique and so the structure will be different. In our case the Chariman’s main function is to be the link between the club in Suffolk to its owners overseas and to be representing the owners in the Uk.

Yeah if he scores a bucket load and we go up, otherwise it’s a waste.

Sone Aluko set to sign, free signing, back up striker i guess.
Also Jacobs set to sign too, so it's definitely gonna be all out attack but isn't it nice to have options up top for a change!!

Louie Barry is definitely a talent, well worth getting in to provide some competition out wide. The Sone Aluko signing is a little strange, as we seem to have a few good strikers at the club already - but as he's a free transfer and doesn't have a great scoring record, I'm guessing he's a back-up and will provide some experience behind the scenes. Michael Jacobs from Portsmouth - another winger - is potentially first team material if he can overcome his injury-plagued previous season and he also provides balance as a left-winger.

Can we please sign some defenders and central midfielders now, Town?

Nuggets, RB is covered with KVY and Burns. LB is covered with Penney and Coulson. CB we have Nsiala, Wolfy and Edmondson...so I'm guessing one more cb will be signed and Ndaba used as cover.

Agree I'm slightly surprised by these, if Jacobs signed we've got a lot of wide forwards and options up top now. These 2 if I'm honest (I'm doing my best not to get carried away this season) seems a little like ME era signings.

I'm not sure Aluko will he back up, he played 37 games in the Championship last season.

Lots of options upfront which is good but also probably alot of players who won't be happy if they're not getting game time.

Really need CBs and a LB (not heard a great deal about Penny, Cook must rate him but doesn't seem to have pulled up any trees in his career so far plus midfield cover (so probably a couple of CMs).

He might be a talent but he’s 18. How’s his attitude?

Not long to find out what this group of players can do now. Fingers crossed they absolutely smash it.

Blimey! 24 hours is a long time at Ipswich town these days. A player passes a medical and then he’s told to jog on as a better option has come good.

mark ashton has balls. A stunt line that takes some nerves of steel. Good knows how the lad goes back to Pompey having ditched them for us. Not our problem. We’ve had plenty, we move on.

so we’re dripping with forwards BUT two are loans and as the season wears on, a couple of injuries, one suspension and another out of form/arrested in some offence or another..,we’ll be glad for the strength in depth.

Weird how quality defence is taking so long to sort out but patience is a virtue as my mother always said!

A ****ty way to behave, not the ‘Ipswich way’ if that exists any longer. And more to the point, why have we gone in for a player we don’t actually rate?
