"Herbert Spencer first used the phrase — after reading Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species — in his Principles of Biology of 1864"

    Anyone else confused?

Proof if ever that you dont know what you are talking about

Herbert Spencer 'coined' the phrase based on CD's natural selection

"This survival of the fittest, which I have here sought to express in mechanical terms, is that which Mr. Darwin has called 'natural selection', or the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life."

Darwin then repeated it in 1869

"If you had read the OP you would realise we are talking about how the universe began"

Are we only allowed to talk about the subject matter of the very first post? What's been going on for the last two days??

Off course, I wasn’t expecting any attempt at tackling anything I or anyone else had said. Just your usual one-line trolling comments. It’s not you people are actually reading here; it’s people who have actually got something rational to contribute.

"oh and Darwin first used Spencer's phrase "survival of the fittest" as a synonym for natural selection in the fifth edition of On the Origin of Species, published in 1869"

And you clearly understand nothing of what he meant by it.

    Its true though

look throughout the history of religion and you will see that religion was a force that stood up to authority

whether it was moses v pharoah. Jesus v the temples. or Muhammad v the Quraysh

I'm sure if asked you'd be able to provide countless examples of that assertion, so as an atheist I won't. I would have thought history has taught us that the only challenge religion makes to authority is to that of a pre-existing religion.
Good postings on this board which have tempted me back after a six month break but am off to post what I hope will be a proper chat about the Olympic Stadium after the last thread was closed due to a couple of tossers.

    well your opening line was

There are plenty of theories as to how and why religion might have evolved...

merely pointing out that the OP was theories on the beginning of the universe and not religion

and the darwin bit was a response to

I’m not sure Darwin ever said “survival of the fittest” ....

Two things I think we'd all like to know is:

    - why is TFWNN so obsessed with how dinosaurs had sex?

    - what has "survival of the fittest" and who coined it got to do with anything?

    answered both for you, directly

is this where you now 'revert to type' as a defence mechanism for making a mistake (in your eagerness I am sure) with regards to the origins of above phrase?

If it is. There is no need. I dont/wont hold that against you.
    It happens <ok>

Yes FanWith, that's because the thread at the time was about how religion developed and you were spouting drivel on the subject.

If we know Dinosaurs exist, the fact they reproduced is a given
