He's not the first player that Chelsea sold and then bought back for a lot more money than they sold him for
But Man United sold him as well. Arguably a mistake from them as well but that is two top level PL clubs that have had him and let him go

I’ve said for a long time that JWP would be the only player I’d have no idea how to replace. Ings is replaceable, anyone else you want to pick too. The club will feel that way. His output in defence and attack, alongside the massive number of minutes he plays every season, means that he’d likely have to be replaced by two players just to cover the shift. That’s completely ignoring the set pieces, the leadership and also his status as poster boy for the academy.
I don’t think we’re likely to get pressured enough by Villa. He’s too vital to fold on unless it’s for silly money or he really wants the move.
Really? I disagree strongly with that.
You wouldn't replace his set pieces but there's plenty of high energy CM's that don't really excel at too much in open play out there.
He's hardly N'Golo Kante is he? I also don't really get where this 'great leader' stuff comes from as I don't see that personally - I actually don't think we have any great leaders which is why we get dicked a lot and heads drop regularly. There's a reason it's Villa after him and not one of the big boys.
Whereas players capable of scoring 20 top flight goals in a season are incredibly rare for a club like ours. We've only had 3 in the past 30 years haven't we? Unless I'm missing someone obvious.
Yeah, I really wouldn't want to lose him (especially to Villa) but he's not irreplaceable.

Don't know him, but sounds a very Saints signing (and he's Austrian too).

Out of interest - in what ways is this a very Saints signing?
Joining us might harm his development due to reduced game time unless Vestergaard definitely goes and/or we move to 3 at the back
Transfermarkt suggests he can cover both full backs roles as well...
But I’m not sure he would fit our kind of full back as you don’t get many super pacy 6’2” full backs that bomb up the flanks ...
But if the links are true it does show we are on the alert in Vestergaard’s position

I have no doubt we have been keeping a very active eye on CB and striker given our position with Ings and Vestergaard.
