Imagine the meltdown if we'd have signed 10 players on the first day of the window for a total of 5m+ quid, did **** all for the rest of the window and Wigan spank us 3 nowt first game.

I read the Chronicle article and the journo said he has covered 18 managers at SAFC under numerous owners and it's always been the same.....slow. Only constants I can see in that equation are the fans and the geography. All the other variables like owners, managers, scouts etc have changed over the years. :emoticon-0126-nerd::emoticon-0127-lipss

There's an assumption that other club's signings are going to all fit perfectly and the clubs will be flying ...

... we signed Jones, who has great talent, and he was a waste of time.

I agree to a point. Vokes was just a rumor and lichaj thankfully tanked in trial. I've repeatedly said nut just to sign anyone but quality. It's nit unreasonable to have expected more by this point.

no it’s not unreasonable at all. But I think that’s as far as it goes

I don’t think the club are intentionally doing this. Some are acting like there are still some dodgy intentions behind the scene

No not at all. Re watch the interviews. Both agreed they want players In early. That's not inaccurate at all. If it doesn't suit your argument so be it but diet make it less true. Neither does it prevent it being accepted that coaches want players in early to work with them. Our currebt position is a position the club can't have planned to be in.

But what manager doesn't say they want players in early? It might not suit your argument but look at the bigger picture of football as a whole - which club has made the early signings that everyone wants? Man U? Man City? Chelsea? Bournemouth? Boro? The mags? Apologies if I'm wrong but haven't Man U only signed Sancho? I know we're not at that level anymore but there is a knock on effect. Players at the top end of the pyramid clubs will not be released until they sign other players. Man U are playing the kids in pre-season games because of the Euros. Clubs in the Chanmpionship as well as ourselves may be after some of the kids that are playing but they won't be released until they get the other players back or sign new ones. We might not like it but we have to wait for even less scraps than we did when we were in the prem!

Don't think anyone has judged it yet ?
Fans are just getting anxious that's all .

It's all well judging the window on the 1st September we've got 5 league games to play by then if we don't start well it could be the difference at the end of the season .
Then we'll all be saying imagine if we weren't having to play Winchester at rb or Neil at lb for the first 4 games
That's the reality!!
1st season in L1, 5 games in Luton had 7 points, Charlton had 5 points. Remind me where they fnished?

Our competitors did though. It's nut either or. You can have quality early.

Firstly there’s no evidence they got quality - time will tell

sexondly it’s easy to make early moves if you pay more than needed

thirdly - just because they got quality early, doesn’t mean we won’t get quality late.

as I keep saying, I’m frustrated and nervous. But this window is not over

The whole league draws the first 5 games  your right that no one knows but that old saying fail to prepare and prepare to fail springs to mind.

But who says we're not preparing? Do you seriously think that the club is just saying "right that's it until January"? No one is happy that we don't have the players in that we need - and I'll go out on a limb here that it will also include people at the club!

In an ideal world you would want your signings in before pre season. I reckon covid's had a massive effect
Totally agree we've signed players in the past and try to fit them into a system rather than the other way round but I certainly can't see a style of football across the 4 games so far. Maybe in patches but cerainly not regularly.

What would you say the style of football we're trying to implement is?
We started playing more through the lines rather than knocking it long. You see the midfielders first thought is the forward pass rather than sideways or backwards. The pressing of the whole team now means we can re-cycle the ball better allowing the opportunity to counter attack at pace.

No I think it'd be mental if they actually tried to do this. That's why I said current position can't be what they planed for. I really hope things improve and soon. I'm. Sure we all think that.

May not suit your argument but many of our l1 competitors have their squads together. If it were one of two squad players I'd relax but it's not I'd it.

All speculator your right all three comments could be wrong or right. I'm commenting on our positon now and saying we need quality before out first league game but some are happy to go into season with patched up 11. Acting like it's wrong to want better.

We've done that in patches, certainly not for most of the game, every game. I was on the stand on the side at York and the amount of times I thought the midfield was passing to me in the first half was ridiculous, it was constantly come out sideways. Flanagan long balls still although not every time like he used to. The pressing game was non-existent yet appeared in other games at times. There's no consistency in how we play across all the games.

That's just it we don't know. What we do know is right now we're short. We could improve and I'm. Hoping they are finalising things.

We might as well throw in the towel now and let them fight over the top slots and play offs now then, we'll just make up the league numbers! Who's to say this team can't match them as it stands now? FFS the window is not closed yet - there is still time to sign players to fill positions. People are agreeing with you up to a point - yes we need players in - but no one else is saying that we are not going to be able to compete with other teams in this league as it stands!

Cant keep blaming covid for everything. People have been into space ffs surely we can sign some quality footballers in 3 months with lockdown ended. :)
