Sissoko is expected to move on this summer and has numerous clubs interested. (YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!)

Spurs are also understood to be open to offers for Winks but he wants to stay. (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!)
Honestly, based on our pre-season games, Winks actually fits in to how our midfield moves the ball

Obviously I think we could markedly improve the way we ping the ball around if we signed Sabitzer or Aouar, but there's actually a way for Winks to contribute to the team in our current system - which can't be said of Sissoko, as the thought of him trying to pull off the one-touch passes that set Scarlett, Bergwijn and Son on their way which Lucas and Paskotsi have already proven to be very effective with is the sort of thing that keeps me awake at night

No, wait, that's my neighbours' security light getting set off by the local foxes, isn't it?

They weren't really blindsided by players running down their contracts. It's entirely predictable.
You either get them to sign new ones, move them on or accept it's happening.
They ****ed up.

From 2000 to 2018 they finished 2nd 5 times and were only out of the top ten once.
They were consistently one of the better teams in Germany and are one of the best supported.
A couple of poor seasons back-to-back and they're out of the division.
Given how many they lost in a short space of time, they were ****ed either way given they were basically going to have to do a rebuild at the end of the barrel of a gun

In a weird way Dortmund probably had a small part to play in this too, because by 2018 when Schalke needed to put together a team with the focus on where they'd be in 2-3 seasons instead of the 36th game of the following season that was the point where young players knew that, if they wanted to boost their career exponentially, you sign for either Dortmund, which was bad news for clubs like Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen

And this does stack up to a point, because the last time Schalke qualified for the CL was 2018 and Leverkusen in 2019, and since then the Bundesliga's four CL places effectively sees three of them handed over to Bayern, Dortmund, Monster Energy Dusseldorf + AN Other, which begs the question about whether an Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg or A German Team can secure their hold on the fourth spot or if that's going to rotate while the other three spots go to the same teams every year

Good thread on the DOF…worth a read and you can see he’s thinking a similar thing with us, it seems.
That article is a tad misleading

First of all there's just a solitary mention of Beppe Marotta even though the fact is Marotta was the head DoF at Juve for most of Paratici's time there, with Paratici only becoming the main man in 2018, and that came after Paratici shanked Marotta by going over his head to sign Ronaldo

Secondly he didn't identify and sign Pogba, instead Miro "****" Raiola shopped Pogba to Juve and Paratici signed off on it - and on the subject of Pogba, the workflow at Juve was Paratici was in charge of incoming players while Marotta was in charge of outgoing, so realistically Marotta is the one who got Man Utd to pay £90m for their former youth team player

That being said, Paratici's borderline insane work ethic could be a good kick up the backside for our scouting team, because if he's working all hours to identify targets (and there's plenty of accounts of this, with talk of him being seen on the streets of Turin at 2am on his phone talking with agents, plus he was seen the other evening at Colchester on his phone throughout the match) that would also mean our scouts have to keep up so we hopefully won't be having a churn of players to fill a gap for a season like Stambouli or Nkoudou because, the odds are, if somebody brought one of those players to Paratici's attention they'd be told to bugger off

Hi mate. Can you please donate your tenner to CRUK as per the sweepstake thread on the PL board.

How does anyone know who he is talking to?

Duje Caleta-Car's name has come up, albeit the source is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the food chain so it may as well be somebody playing Football Manager

And, frankly, Marseille can do one after jerking us around twice in the same window over Batshuayi and Nkoudou
