True but that’s not the way Bob is selling it as he followed it up with things not being right. I’d trust any player to join a Championship club ahead of us.
There is a massive element of our fanbase that are more interested in complaining about the club than supporting it. This is not aimed at Football Dinosaur, more just a general reflection. It's like being an "angry Sunderland fan" is actually the hobby rather than being "a Sunderland fan"
I am ****ing dreading the season mind. I thought the change of ownership would change the general mood of the fans. Every goal we concede will be blamed on Burge. Every defeat we have will be blamed either on LJ or making signings too late. As somebody who doesn't live in the area and can only really interact with the club via social media, it does feel so incredibly toxic. The only way I can see it ending is promotion to the championship. And the longer it takes the more toxic things will get. And the more toxic things get the harder it will be.
I'm looking at history and knowledge of some supporters I know. Lets be honest if we don't start well and supporters are in the ground a full years pent up frustration could be unleashed. Nobody wants that. I certainly don't, if I sound negative its because I want better than we've currently got. Airing my concers is an opinion were all entitled to them after all.
had a look on t'other site and (no disrespect to bob as i do not know the lad) i got the feeling bob is a wee bit p1ssed off with the club and lack of info coming out, he appears to be the only one who has been told we 'missed out' on 6 players...if there is so little info coming out (and i cannot blame the club for that) how did he find out about these 6 players and the recent medical i wonder. i honestly despise the transfer window, all it seems to do is pit fans against each other.
I seem to recall him having a go at KLD in the early stages because I accused him of still having his allegiance with Donald
i am not sure if i missed a lot of bob posts or i just did not bother as they were rather cryptic at times...the problem i think is that when a lad has had a quite constant stream of info and people on the site(s) rely on those lads for updates to keep them going, then the info dries up they feel as if they are letting the rest of the lads down. i have always tried to take all info in a 'it might not happen' scenario rather than a 'it's a dead cert' scenario.
I don't mind people having a different opinion. Thats fine and I've been called worse over the road and in real life so no offence. I have supported us for decades rather than years. Remember bad days at Roker, we've seen record points low's, twice and back to back relegations before being further ruined by the chuckle brothers selling our future and thats mearly scratching the surface of SAFC history. With that in mind I'm amazed we're as supportive as we are. I'm a season ticket holder and have been for many years. I want the best for the club as many do. I can only praise where its due and sadly our recruitment team haven't earned praise just yet. For balance KLD has done well, improving facilities and getting concerts back. I'm sure they will be adding to both as we go along. We've also added to u23's (hopefully not just squad fillers to patch the damage done as mentioned above) but as we'll all agree the most important part of a club is the 11 first team players, which even the head coach isn't happy with right now. I think most supporters (even those deemed toxic) just want a team to be proud of and a winning side to get us back to championship (which i'd view as basecamp, the lowest acceptable position for our club). I could take championship for a few seasons if you could see progress with youth/recruitment and around the club but being in league one is just not acceptable and embarrasing for the fanbase. As supporters we can only hope things go our way and we all want a successful SAFC but we do need to debate everything during the season (its what forums are for) and I expect to hear all views positive and negative.
Good post - agree with everything you’ve said there. Nobody could blame fans for ‘negativity’, it’s a joke where we’re currently at.
Dont be dreading the season mate. It is still SAFC and we will still support them, thick and thin remember, its what we do. Yes there will be people twisting after defeats and about players, me included probably. But we recover quickly and most fans in my opinion are balanced enough to treat the season a 46 game marathon. Most fans also know what is going on behind the scenes in terms of investment. Loads of time for quality to arrive, plus we will hopefully have a bit up our sleeve come Jan in terms of salary cap to tip the balance our way. I am fully paid up eternal optimist, I admit. I am delighted with O'Nien and McGeady being here still, the young City lad has a massive write up from them and Pritchard has a pedigree. I see no other L1 club making signings of that calibre. We are the only club in league 1 who can promote from u23 prem 2 side, and one who almost got promoted. So we have good looking lads like Neil, Younger, Hawkes and Patterson, plus others. Other league 1 clubs can only loan them. We also have Stewart settled in, having paid a decent fee to get him ahead of clubs higher up the tree than us. The club are saying they are actively recruiting so we know more will arrive. Personally I see no reason to be pessimistic at all and I cant wait for match 1. I hope we play Dan Neil because he will make Power look daft.
I would mate, I know some people are getting frustrated and I'm one of them, but if they have certain players they want and it's taken longer then so be it. Wigan have proved its extremely easy to sign bog standard L1 players that won't get you promoted, I'm hoping the reasons ours a taking a bit longer is down to the quality we are trying to bring in. Even if we are 4 games into the season before we get who we want then that will do me
I think he makes it up as hes goes along. On one hand he is saying we missed out on 6 players, then his next comment is he cant get any info from the club anymore.
