Of course it could. The size and history of the club means that it could be sustained in the Premier League but it hasn't been there for 5 years and has fallen a long way and requires a lot of rebuilding.

The point was, however, to provide an equally extreme counterbalance to your notion that not being worried was blindly accepting failure.
Every supporter knows the history. To be reminded of this seems like talking down to fellow fans. If your happy with our current position you may need to ask why? We're all in miles away from promotion and 2 weeks to kick off.

State of some of our fanbase... 'sign someone', 'new faces', aye lads, just sign any ****er shall we? Without a plan? Just get bodies in? The same bellends will whinge at the first chance they get. Screaming fannies.....

We've had a list since may. 2 months and 3 signings. At that rate we won't full the gaps we need to let along improve.

we all want the same thing lads, from the youngest supporter to our new owner but we all need to stop worrying about stuff we have zero control over...you are going to make yourselves ill.

yes, we may well have had more players in and in an ideal world they would all be first choice 'class' players, as has been said, just because we might like the look of a player does not mean that both clubs will agree on a valuation, even if the other club wants to see that player leave (freebies are obviously completely different)...then, we are sunderland, big club = lots of money to agents and not often most of them have the chance to push for bigger slices of the cake so negotiations tend to stumble quite often.

afraid we have little choice other than to be patient, years of the club going down the pan have to be put right and i for one no longer want to see 'quick fixes' as none have worked so far, we really have to rebuild from the ground up and should we get it right this season then great but we might have to grind our teeth while things fall into place.
well said mate agree totally with that<applause><applause>

Surely you're smarter than thinking our rate of signings is going to stay at 3 signings every 2 months? Things always pick up later. Other clubs have blown their load early. There's plenty of benefit to that.

Personally I'd rather sign good players on 31st August than mediocre ones on 1st July, that we then spend the following summer trying to sell.

Ha'way the rate! <laugh>

No your right we may accelerate signings. Our record late in the window isn't great though is it and the usual excuses about not knowing their team mates or needing time to settle. This could be more important if they're younger lads coming in.

On the flip side if we are going to bring in Morgan Rogers, I quite like the idea of him spending a few extra weeks training with Pep whilst they wait for Sterling to come back from the Euros.

Same goes for Galbraith training with United's first team.

Good younguns from top academies won't need long settling in periods. Look at Doyle in his debut. Sure it was a friendly but he'd been here about 3 days.

Towards the end of the season every point seems vital and very fine margins or goal differences can make or break any promotion challenge.
Why is it that at the start of the season people appear to be very relaxed. When they say there’s 6 weeks left or most deals are done in the last hours, that also means new signings will need time to get used to playing in a different team. The famous ‘gel’ time.

If our first 10 games get a low point return because we’ve left signings late don’t those points matter so much.

I know nobody is promoted at Christmas but having 30 points on the board by then must be better than having 20 and already playing catch up.
These early games are just as valuable as the end run in yet if we leave recruitment late it could well cost us several points.

The earlier we get the new lads in the more chance we have of being promoted.
Maybe we will get 6 in this week. I hope so.
Get these 6 training and playing together as soon as possible.
The longer it’s left the more it will cost us.
It’s also a gamble because we may not get the ones we want and then will we just sign squad fillers because there’s less time to start trying to sign other good players.

Some here say prices go up as we get nearer to the window closing. Not much money saved by waiting.
I know it’s six weeks to the window closing but just see how quick the time passes. Each day with nobody arriving becomes a week, then two and before you know it there’s only days before the window closes.

Here’s hoping we get some in soon and have a better chance to get more early points on the board.

he also said that we have lost out on 6 players in the last 3 weeks. I do think Bob gets to know stuff and @Prehab26 has also confirmed he hears similar to him. Hopefully this time he hasn't
Bob sent me a pm about a couple of signings before they happened and that Ross Stewart was having a look round on the Saturday, he signed on the Sunday or Monday.

If we are going down the sustainable route, then clearly in an ideal world we would be signing good young talent with good sell on ability but who could also get us promoted now and stay and do a job if necessary.

But seeing KLD wants to get us completely solid from a finance perspective, perhaps loans are the way to go this year. Good quality loans that mean this time next year we can afford to spend a bit more money on permanent additions. As we won't need to be clearing the decks.

There's still a whole load of good loans available, purely from my noddy knowledge. Morgan Rogers, Jebbison and Ellis Sims up front just off top of head. Gallagher, Cirkin and that Forest kid at full back. Even Josef Bursik in goal.

Sign a few of those and things look a lot, lot better.

I thought we were mates, you bastard. Bob used to PM me stuff but when I slagged SD off and told Bob he was a club stooge doing their dirty work to pacify fans, he called me a mag

Bob clearly does hear stuff but he doesn’t know how to speak and confuses people. Some of his posts are ridiculous.

Two thoughts on that.

Firstly it seems he's saying something is odd at the club because he's not hearing as much as he'd like. I think thats a good thing

Secondly us missing out on players could actually be seen as a positive. If we are aiming for players that are signing in the championship great. Our standards are high. If we are missing out on players signing for MK Dons and Accrington, less so.

Great post marra, quality loans this season could be the key

What? You've got a funny point of view if you think mentioning the size of the club is talking down to anyone.
I have asked myself why I'm happy with the position we're in. And the answer is "because there's still a long way to go until the end of the transfer window and a lot can happen in that time".

He is saying the bloke going to Aspire having a medical, virtually agreeing to join then pissing off back to Stockport is odd
How can "missing out" on players be a positive, it means we were after them. You cant miss out on something you weren't in for.

Sluper Klev on there definitely knows his stuff too (and has actually demonstrated it on the board unlike Bob) and he's said we've not missed out on any targets yet.

I mean I'd rather we were missing out on players because we are setting our standards high, than signing players easily because our standards were low.
