Interesting about weighing up evidence, something you often refer to, the problem is alot of people only ever weigh up what they choose to weigh up as evidence, by that I mean their own already held beliefs. Many people struggle to admit when they are wrong, or refuse to concede on any given argument.
It's a problem I found and still do find with politic threads, people only weigh up the narratives that fit their ideology. An example, twitter users, they generally tend to follow people they like, those people they like will generally share the same views as them - thus they only ever get a very narrow view of information. You're creating your own ideal world via a keyboard, your own bubble, but it becomes misleading because you tend to end up going down wormholes.
Another example would be a twitter follower may unfollow another person, if they give a narrative that don't suit their ideology or beliefs. Hence social media causes a lot of misinformation and it creates divisions that puts its users into different categories, generally because people only ever see what they want to see and get abusive, derogatory and insulting to others or the people if someone attempts to see something differently, especially if they don't share the same ideals as them, you get little packs forming.
I remember many decades ago, if I got into a conversation with someone who was very militant, normally they tended to be quite aggressive with it as well, you still see those traits in people today, but there is one big difference from then to now.......you can no longer walk away from it because it's in your face, particularly when engaging in new technology.
