First weekend for a while with no football to talk about except gossip and transfer stories.

    • Free Agents available if you can afford the wages, but most of these will be hoovered up by Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid as they try and sell some top players for cash because of massive debts and recruit freebies: Messi, Sergio Ramos, Aguero, Wjinaldum, Luis Donnarumma, David Alaba, Javi Martinez, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Lucas Vazquez,, Santos Borre, Hartem Ben Arfa
    • Will any club outside the so-called top 4 be able to do what Leicester did and win the premier League? Lets face it the season they did it there was a perfect storm of crappies. Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all competed for being poorer than Leeds Utd were at that time in the Championship. Leicester have progressed but could they do it again, or anyone else?
    • Heard Tracey Crouch in an interview this morning and she has said, that the football authorities have promised to sort out football governance for 20 years and not done it. She is doing a full review of football and said by the end there will be a new structure that governs football, and the FA, EFL, Premier League will do what they are instructed to do because enough is enough. So it seems a body will look at footy now and make sure owners rules, financial rules etc are sorted once and for all. ESL started this so well done you greedy so-called top 6.
    • After listening to Crouch it got me wondering about government hand-outs to football, especially through the pandemic. Yes the furlough scheme and some guaranteed business loans has helped clubs lower down the pyramid, but it’s a joke compared to the money we give to The Arts! The Arts is a minority, elitist pursuit and takes in highbrow Opera, orchestras, theatres, galleries, lefty actors and artists etc. Yes people go to London to take in a show but in reality the fans at one Leeds Utd match are many many more than go down to London from Leeds to see a show. 630,000 Leeds fans go through the turnstiles every season, and millions more pay to watch live games around the world. Yet it seems populist pursuits like football are deemed not worthy of grassroots funding, indeed our football pitches have been sold from under us. Kids playing football at school and boys clubs leads to Sunday league and up to the amateur game and up to lower league bottom of the pyramid football. Participants are in their millions and fans many more millions yet hardly a penny handed over. Arts are for the elites and this year were given £1.57bn and then topped up because of the pandemic by another £257m!!!! Football got an emergency £10m support package. The Football Foundation is funded by The premier league and the national Lottery threw in another £2.1m. This is a massive disparity and I suggest any political party who decided to reduce funding of The Arts and start putting money into grassroots football and lower league football would win every election. Seems that Chelsea are going in hard for freebie Donnarumma which will mean Chelsea will also have a very young keeper like Meslier. Donnarumma is actually Italy’s keeper too, so Keppa will now be sold cheap

Comparing 2 young 22 year olds in Tyler Roberts and Yasser Larouchi and there are some similarities. You may remember that Bielsa tried to sign Larouchi on loan last Summer, but Liverpool wanted a huge loan fee or would like to sell him for a stupidly high fee. Larouchi was seen as the next bug thing and was understudy at LB for Robertson. Roberts spent most of his time at Leeds out injured for the first year and a half and then given a chance in the U23s. There has been an attitude with Roberts and the 23s squad whereby Roberts likes to give the impression he is a far superior player and a first team player so they should let him take free kicks and penalties etc. He has been known to over play and not pass. Even this season playing for the 23s Gelhardt had jinked in and out of defenders and was brought down for a penalty. Joffy had the ball taken out if his hands and Joffy wont be pushed around and almost decked Roberts. Larouchi has been sidelined by Liverpool because he wanted to leave and has only played 2 games for the 23s and Larouchi has now left Liverpool and is now a free agent.

Both these kids seem to have an attitude, but slowly I think Roberts is starting to realise that he aint as good as he thinks he is, and knows that he has the talent to be a very good player as long as he listens to Bielsa and the players who are better than him at Leeds. Larouchi has had a wasted season at Liverpool but is now a free agent. Wonder if he is still on Bielsa’s shopping list, or is his attitude not right for Leeds. The kid has pace, power and grace and would be a cheap option, especially when it was known Bielsa tried to get him last Summer and again January?

I have nowt against Roberts he's had plenty of discussion on here since I've come onboard.
I just feel he's been he long enough and had his chance. He's not rubbish but he's not showing enough for me to be a premier league player. (A player as in oh he needs to play in the first 11 next week) I've never felt that with Robets. Always felt he's just a stopgap player.
I just see the bigger picture if we want to improve our team and squad. Roberts is one who comes into my mind in being replaced.
Roberts has to stay in the squad can he do that for next season? If we are to improve the team and squad Id say no. If we bring in new players he be one of the first out.
He will know that too. Then where does he go he won't want to play in the u23"s and with a year left on his contract it's not a place we would want him to go. he needs exposure and his little cameo roles end of season might just of done that to big up some interest.

As on the Liverpool lad Doc I really don't know much about him to make a comment.

    Exactly this

if you want to pick your team for the next match from the players we have on the books right now, how many put Roberts down as a starter. He has got to be behind Rodrigo for the No10 slot and Rodrigo for the No9 slot that means he is 3rd choice No9. So then add in a couple of new players this Summer and although Roberts makes a good utility player option who could play out wide in midfield and up front, and just maybe Bielsa is trying to teach him that if thats the case, great and he should buckle down and learn, but if he thinks he should be a regular starter then he is sadly mistaken

I also think this is the same problem Alioski has with the new contract offer, I believe both players know they will be bit part players next season and finding it hard to accept. Alioski is getting on and should move if he wants to play more but Roberts is still young enough to improve under Bielsa so should maybe wait?

YEP reporting that Leeds are going to send Sam Greenwood out on loan next season and expecting plenty of offers to come in for him. Also saying that a number of U23s to be released and some going out on loan. More players to come in for the 23s too?

Was always just outside our price bracket. Yes the best midfielder in Seria A but also the most expensive

Swansea. I don't like Brentford. I don't like their manager. I hope Pontus stays in the Championship.

Unfortunately I think they'll beat Swansea

All Brentford at the moment, I don’t like their coach either but you’ve got to admire they’re always in the mix despite selling their top talent each season.

As I said in an earlier weekend post regarding Chinese owners pulling their money out of the West. Swansea, WBA, Wolves, Southampton, Birmingham, Reading all struggling. Then you also have AC Milan and Inter Milan. There was over 20 clubs owned by Chinese money in 2017 now only 10 and all going backwards
