Do you have a 2nd team?

When I was growing up in the late 70s Liverpool were THE team and because of this I was always a bit of a fan and pretended to be Dalglish when I played football. I always supported Sunderland as well but didnt realise being a fan of 2 teams is not a done thing, until I got a bit older then it was always Sunderland first above anything else.
Liverpool still pull on my heart strings a bit though even now, 40 odd years later. Don't get me wrong, if we ever play Liverpool (unlikely at the moment, I know), I would be 100% behind Sunderland.
Anyone else got a 2nd team, and why?

My parents moved down south, just outside London during the depression in the 80's, when I was 3 and one day my Dad came home with a Liverpool and Arsenal shirt. Told me to choose one and that's the team I can support if I wanted to. I chose the Arsenal shirt but chose Sunderland to support.

Happy with my choice to this day and we moved back up to Sunderland 3 years later as well so I know I've been brought up right as well

Do like to see Arsenal do well and I suppose if pushed yeah, they're my 2nd team.

We probably all have a 'second' team, that we like to see do well, and mine is 'Spurs 'cos of Glenn Hoddle

My mate (my best man nearly 41 years ago . . . . and we're still mates) told me about him when he first started playing at age 17, and it was obvious that he was one of those 'special' players.

'Spurs were always known for attractive football, and Glenn got me hooked . . . . Garth Crooks was often his target and I've never seen anyone that could pass the ball so accurately or consistently, and glide past opponents effortlessly and with such grace, before or since.

I've always played like Hoddle, although not to the same standard . . . . I can pass, with either foot, but I can't tackle) and he's been my football 'hero' for quite a long time.

I suppose mine would be Doncaster. My dad was brought up in a village just outside Doncaster called Armthorpe. So its them - never been to a match but always look out for their results.

To be honest I absolutely cannot stand most other clubs. I do like to see Rangers best Celtic though.

Lived in Libpool for 28 years and had a season ticket at Everton from the mid eighties until the season Moyes joined.
I packed in because of Walter Smith, not Moyes.
They had a wonderful team in the eighties.
As a result of this my son is an Evertonian, not a Mackem. Sorry.

I am from Washington , so it would have to be them. Always support your local club.

My parents were born and bred in Glasgow, they moved to the North East before I was born. The family were Rangers through and through....... on visits, I spent more time at Ibrox than I did at my Grandparents house.
My Dad worked shifts with half a dozen other steel workers who were Sunlun fans, and he went to the matches at Roker with them, got hooked, took me and the rest is history! However, he always did, and I do now, look for the Rangers result. My family there are still season ticket holders, I keep in touch with them every match.
So, Rangers are my second team, and, if only we’d have got out of the third division, it would have been a great year!!

Dundee (place of birth)
Everton (always favoured them growing up in the mid 80s)

I've never lived within 3 hours drive of Sunderland so I probably should have a second team but I don't. Stevenage probably closest as have been my local team most of my life - I look out for their results and smile if they win but have pretty much zero emotional reaction if they lose. Couldn't tell you who their manager is or any of their players.

Always happy when our local teams are doing well, except of course Newcastle, have a soft spot for Hartlepool for no other reason I used to do match duties there when I was in the force, got to be the coldest ground in history when that winter east wind blows in from the North Sea.

Sunderland and nobody else. I like to see Hartlepool do well as I played for them years ago but their results don’t affect me at all.
