Yes mate, we will need to buy another CM and attacker. Hence it's important that we have bring in maximum funds which means selling players like Phillips who have value but not future at the club.
Don't get me wrong, if we didn't need to sell to buy I'd be all for keeping him as a 6-7th choice back up. But we don't operate like that. Hence I rather sell him because his value will not be any higher than it is now and he has no future, and buy a defender who has a higher ceiling, better suited to us and has potential to become a starting CB for us in the long run. Buying Kabak for £18m and selling Phillips for £10m (hypothetical of course) is a no brainer for me. Kabak ticks a lot of boxes and is ultimately better suited to us.
We've made the same mistake with the likes of Origi and Wilson. We can't afford to keep making the same mistakes.
Only way we spend the required sums for that is if one of Mane or Salah leave.
Kabak and Konate is £50m more than we have alone
Or unknown quantities.Konate release clause is £34m and assume we get Kabak for £8m net (after selling Nat) so its £42m which is a lot for two centre backs but not much considering these are two highly rated young centre backs and could be starting regularly for years to come. And we need to rotate Gomez / Matip accordingly.
Essentially we should never be in the same position as we're in this season where we are relying on Championship / League 1 standard defenders.

One might claim kabak is championship level if one were equally harsh.

I don't think he's quite that bad but he's not of title challenging standards imo
I agree - I just think he's a good long term option with a lot of potential. He is only 21.
Point still stands. Where is the £42m coming from, never the money for a CM and attacker that you suggested.
And if we experienced injuries at CB like this season, we'd have the same outcome still. We lost VVD, Jo-Go and Matip, we've also lost Kabak since too, that's you're four (swap Matip for Konate). If you claim we'll keep Matip to make it five CBs, you're crazier than I thought![]()
He'd be a decent fourth choice but as I've said, we won't spend £18m on a fourth choice CB.
I'm not the money man mate but we need to shift a lot of deadwood this summer plus we will have around our normal £20-30m annual budget.
We're definitely linked to Konate as per the local journos so you're better of asking them where the money is coming from![]()
It would be £18m but we would have to sell Phillips to offset it. £8m for Kabak is a steal IMO.
No doubt we'll sign CB, we just won't get birth Konate and Kabak.

Doesn't matter, we still won't spend £18m on a fourth choice CB
£18m for Kabak is a No from me .It would be £18m but we would have to sell Phillips to offset it. £8m for Kabak is a steal IMO.
But we'd probably be willing if it was £8m ...
