Hake wa similar price to halibut? When was that? Must have been quite a while ago. Wife doesn't take much interest in these things but really enjoyed coley when we had it at home. No fish is cheap now unfortunately.

The Hake market was much stronger on the West Coast, Fleetwood market always paid a high price for Hake, but most of it went to Spain & France where the price was high, hence why it was similar to Halibut prices in this country. There was very little quantity of Hake landed in Hull, as the fishing areas were not conducive to catching it. Fleetwood vessels catching area were mainly West Coast of Scotland, where Hake was more plentiful.

Note: One reason why the Spanish and French were so keen to keep fishing in our waters, before we went into the EU the UK sold to Spain & France, during the EU membership the Spanish and French caught it themselves, hopefully now it will start to come back to our fishermen again.

Here endeth the lesson:emoticon-0100-smile

All you need to order on Good Friday is:

FISH, CHIPS, CURRY SAUCE & MUSHY PEAS.

You’re welcome.
That's a fairly lethal concoction!!

Keep your bedroom window open on Friday night GLP,failing that ,wear a gas mask (same advice to your good lady).

Stein update...

The mackerel pate and Padstow sourdough toast and salad was excellent.

The Hake was very good, but the two sauces and serrano crumb was a bit of a faff and didn't taste of much.

Sticky toffee pudding was excellent, though I had it with Burgess ice cream, rather than the clotted cream it came with.

French Sauvignon Blanc was very good.

Overall, it was good and I've never had one before, so it made a nice change (the good weather meant we could sit outside in the sun for it as well).

Where did you buy it from? I might give it a go.
Was it stupidly expensive?

I guess it travelled a long way to get to you and arrived cold, do you just stick it in the microwave and warm it up?
