I believe Villa offered a bigger fee and better wages but he was determined to stay in London.
Think it’s a good move for him now. If he fulfils his potential he’ll be at a proper top club at 25/26. Hodgson will be gone soon. Keeps him close to his family which was important for him.
Personally I think he's good enough now for the step up, Arsenal could do worse than make a move in the summer.
Spurs definitely had a sniff but Levy probably offered £5m + Harry Winks on loan.
Perhaps he thinks he'll benefit from Roy Hodgson's coaching (no, that isn't a joke). Or perhaps he really is just one of those youngsters who doesn't want to be too far from home, but Birmingham isn't that far from London, so that wouldn't be a great reason to turn down Villa.
He obvs went there to play every week, he wouldn’t have done if he’d have gone to a bigger club. He’s not the finished article yet from what I’ve seen of him.
If they’d thrown in use of the cheese room once a month we probably would have.
