But up until today wearing a union jack suit marked you out as a racist stuck in the colonial past Is GBS colonial history something to be proud of now I honestly can't keep up with whats needed to get into power anymore
A catchy slogan mainly but a few lies and bots wouldn’t go amiss. A flag is just a bit of material. It’s the person flying it who dictates what it means. But I would bring in Tommy as shadow Home Secretary.
Unfortunately, we live in an era where shagging a stranger on national TV gains celebrity status, pumped up lips and botox has become more popular than fish & chips, people in power telling lies to the population and corruption on every corner, drug dealers making more money than lawyers, children palmed off to nursery before they have left the womb, materialistic values more important than moral values. This is the society we are living in, this is the society manufactured for our children, it's all over the world.
Was knackered so went to sleep early and missed all the fun on here and the Southampton second half. I wouldn’t be making jokes about that at your age.
I agree MSM manipulates. Always has done, but never more than now. Look at what the media did to Ed Milliband over the bacon sandwich and the Ed stone. You can't blame the guy for eating a sandwich, but the piss taken by the tabloids over the Ed stone was forseeable and was an own goal So when it comes to the "brian's" placard, it left the goal wide open for the SNP. MSM couldn't use it because they knew the truth as Steel laid out. But it's mother's milk to social media. They don't care what the background is, they have an image of someone in the SNP who looks illiterate and it plays into their agenda of the SNP failing on education (which is it). So even though it was a "clever" misuse of words, it was an unwise placard. If you want any more convincing, imagine Diane Abbot had been at the same meeting holding a sign saying "You need brians to be a Labour minister". It would plague her to retirement and beyond...
Not me mate. But I guess it will happen to all of us at some point. I have just understood what you were going on about re flag... Captain Hindsight anything for votes.
So what your saying is don’t be clever or funny ‘cos if you do you have to be prepared for dumb ****s to be manipulated by the MSM into thinking you’re stupid......hmmmmm. I know which person I’d rather be
Except that at the age of 99, he had an idea to do the walk 100 laps of his garden to make money for the NHS and it made £32,000,000! Tell me who you know that goes above and beyond this... He's caught the imagination of the public because he represented a tough, resilient generation with a huge sense of duty, that didn't complain in the face of adversity but got on with life believing there was always sunshine after the rain
It's social media that's the real danger and anyone connected to a political party needs to think twice when they put something on a placard. And as you say, it applies to the left and right wing
But then surely it’s the dumb ****s on social media who are being proven to be dumb ****s ? This debate has highlighted the fact.......
You better go back 50 years then? I noticed yesterday that Starmer was getting slated on Twitter for being too much like the Tories. He is in a weird position because people don’t want all those old dead Labour policies. That’s all history. The party should split IMO. Labour blew their best chance by not putting David Millibland in as leader instead of his sandwich eating idiot brother? Jezza was then the wrong choice. As soon as he became leader I thought ... no chance. Thankfully the antisemite got nowhere near power. I now think the new bloke is another dud. He and his army of droids aren’t good enough. The Tories have had problems with Covid and Brexit and are at their lowest, but would still be more electable than Labour. That says it all. It has nothing to do with Flag shagging British but more about the opposition being crap. I can honestly say there is not one Labour front bencher that think is any good... even Lisa Nandy has been turned in a Stepford wife. anyway as for policies... they only have them after the fact.
People aren't necessarily dumb. They simply see an image which plays into what they know/believe about a political party and they aren't interested in looking any deeper. And the damage is done... Image is vital, which is why we're seeing the Labour Party changing tack, and moving to use of the Union flag and have representatives dressing smartly to win back Red Wall voters. This is the opposite of the Michael Foot scruffiness and Jeremy Corbyn's no border approach, but these have been seen to fail . What Starmer doesn't need now is any of his front bench turning up to jeans and a T shirt with PLO or IRA emblazoned on it
They need to do the exact opposite of splitting. The Tories cover the entire right wing vote apart from when the far right play up a bit and then they go further right to extinguish them for a bit. In contrast, other parties are scrapping with each other for the same voters. The result is absolute control for a party with a minority share of the vote. If they could band together and not compete in seats they know they can’t win but one of the others would have a chance then there’d an actual chance of forming a coalition government and binning FPTP. It won’t ever happen though.
My old next door neighbour who is no longer with us, fought in both world wars, hated the fact he was awarded medals for being sent into battle. Raised over 100k for all sorts of charities, left all his worldly belongings and his house to be auctioned for the sick children's trust (as it is now known). With cancer in his late 80's attempted Ben Nevis, never quite made it up but tried albeit aided. What a guy. That's just one of many I know from a similar generation. Theres also a young 9 year old girl with terminal cancer near us, raising money with sponsored all sorts for the cancer research fund. The bravest little girl ever! They are everywhere up and down the country but get little to no media attention.
He was iconic. He never asked to be but he gave people who needed it a bit of hope. Lots of people who deserve as much adulation don’t get it but he kind of represented all of that, again not out of choice.
That’s where we are different then Goldie, which ain’t a problem, however I thing it is pretty dumb to believe and be outraged by a story in the MSM without delving further into it and finding out the truth. You make the point very well when you refer to Michael Foots ‘scruffiness’..........I would suggest that Labour needs to do more than ‘dressing smartly’ to win back the working class. Paul Emberys book sets it out superbly..........
