Rod, you wonder about the SA strain in Surrey. That troubles us both. However I find it incredible that the SA strain is now in Australia and New Zealand. How does that happen with their very strict controls of entry ?
Despite all the fuss that it hadn't been trialled properly, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is found to be 92% effective against Coronavirus. This has been confirmed in the Lancet.
It is being used (according to the BBC) in Argentina Palestinian territories Venezuela Hungary UAE Iran But it doesn't say if all doses are being supplied by, or come directly from, Russia. It's 2 doses, but the second one is apparently slightly different from the first. 'Unlike other similar vaccines, the Sputnik jab uses two slightly different versions of the vaccine for the first and second dose - given 21 days apart. They both target the coronavirus's distinctive "spike", but use different vectors - the neutralised virus that carries the spike to the body. The idea is that using two different formulas boosts the immune system even more than using the same version twice - and may give longer-lasting protection. As well as proving effective, it was also safe with no serious reactions linked to the vaccine during the trial. Some side effects to a vaccine are expected but these are usually mild, including a sore arm, tiredness and a bit of a temperature. And there were no deaths or serious illness in the vaccinated group linked to the jab'.
This time last year, scientists were scrabbling around trying to develop a vaccine for the unknown, normally taking decades....but all of a sudden we have more variety's than you get in a box of Quality Street.......should be able to choose a flavour soon......I'm gonna wait until they bring out the humble pie & brandy cream shot
Bad news for me guys, after all of our dancing, prancing and celebrating last week because our jabs appointments were given us for tomorrow, phone call this morning, everything cancelled until further notice in our medical centre because they have no gauranteed supplies, Mrs Wiz and I most despondent. After all of the brilliant news we have been hearing it's a real kick in the teeth, I expect all will be resolved next week, here is hoping.
