A mate (Leicester fan) has sent me a replica* programme (price 4d, that’s 4 old pennies to you) from our nearest home game to the 21/1/61 - v Bury on 28th. We won 3-1 to stay top of the third division........but we came third at the end of the season when only top two promoted. I shall ponder the significance of this.

* stop press it’s not a replica, it’s genuine, and to his delight sourced from his home town of Melton Mowbray.

Think i might stay away from Twitter its not doing my anxiety any good but this does not sound good.

People are going to get it even after two doses and even if they’re administered at the absolute perfect time. Individual cases will still happen. It’s **** but don’t think it’s anything to worry about over and above what you’d already be worried about.

I think anyway. **** knows. Someone will correct me. Just glad we won last night tbh.

I got a similar but 7 years earlier present for Christmas this year... away Torquay October 1953.

We had someone youngster called Ron Springett on our books..

I’m not a fan of the decision to delay second doses, but if I had ‘terrible’ symptoms I don’t think I would be tweeting to make a political point. If you get this bad the symptoms really are all encompassing.

Happy birthday Stan, welcome to the 60 club.......

On the downside i was told yesterday that my aged mother tested positive for COVID in the latest round of testing at her care home, there are now 11 residents and 4 carers that are positive. The upside is that she is asymptomatic and only has the lethargic effects as they had their 1st vaccine dose to weeks ago so at least they have built up some immunity.......still worrying at her age and no chance of me getting to see her in the foreseeable future as Government are talking about extending level 5 restrictions until late February.......

Still great result last night........

Ireland has been barred from ordering doses of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine in an apparent EU bid to pay the UK back for Brexit.

The vaccine has been given the go ahead in the UK in order to vaccinate as many people as possible with the NHS under increasing pressure.

The jab has yet to be given the green light by the EU and there may be delays due to Brexit.

The European Commission said that coronavirus vaccines cannot be delivered before they get regulatory approval.

Bit misleading. As has been explained on here before, the EU cannot block any member state from approving for use any drug it wants. What it can insist on is that the drug has been through an approval process, either at EU level (the European Medicines Agency) or at national level. As indeed should the people taking the drugs. Now, I don’t know if Ireland has its own drugs regulatory system or whether it leaves it to the EU. If it doesn’t you will depend on the EMA. The EMA does seem to be slow (or perhaps thorough is a better word), but the Oxford/AZ vaccine was only submitted to them for approval last week by AZ, and they expect a decision by 29 January. I suppose Ireland could say ‘we’ll just do whatever the UK does’ but that might be a bit tricky politically in several ways.

Well all the more for us in the UK then.

Just to say, the Oxford vaccine uses a tried and tested technique known to work in other diseases. More than can be said for the cutting edge Moderna and BioNtech/Pfizer vaccine...(.all work well though, based on two data dosage reports...just saying)

But I thought I read that individual countries could buy what ever they wanted...It is just the bulk EU buying that is affected. Have they specifically told Eire not to buy the AZ/Oxford vaccine, now that is mean

Otherwise they would get onto second shots/ start vaccinating 31 year olds before some places have finished on the walking dead old codgers.

Pfizer have changed their manufacturing process which will mean less supply from them for a few weeks but ultimately will up their capacity. Odd that the AZ vaccine was only submitted to the European Medicines Agency for review a week ago (could be approved by 29 January) and doesn’t even seem to be under review by the FDA in the US.

Speaking of 'walking dead old codgers' my parents 94 and 86 respectively have finally been notified that they will get done on Saturday. Whether that's because Midhurst was featured in a news article as 'the land that time forgot' when it comes to Covid vaccinations, the local MP was inundated with messages informing him that he was history and that those still alive when the next election would hold him to account, or the GP surgery managed to buy some from a lorry driver in a shell suit in the dead of night who knows. Or cares. Better late than never.
