It wasn’t though, was it. It was proven over and over again. Stop pretending these are just mistakes. Sadly it’s not that funny. It’s grimly predictable. And no they won’t “deal with them”. Why the **** would they?
It really isn't funny nor been debunked, it just shows that to get government contracts you need to either donate to them or be in business with a Tory. Not sure what is funny about that
Hang on, we are getting wires crossed here. A few months back someone mentioned that all the PPE contracts were given to Tory donors. At the time I said that was wrong and it was proved that the contracts went to many different companies. If you want to believe otherwise, you crack on. As for the food hampers... I don't know who all the contacts have been given to. However believe the one company in question has links to the Torys... probably has links to other things but let's not worry about that. As I said, there has obviously been mistakes made which have now been highlighted.
The fact not every penny went to Tory donors doesn’t debunk anything. It wouldn’t be an issue if the money was used efficiently which it blatantly isn’t as demonstrated perfectly here. People don’t know what a face mask should cost but they know they’re being mugged off when people get sent a fiver’s worth of food for £30.
You are mixing things up again. Don't blanket everything with your Tory hatred. Many companies around the World were used for PPE manufacturing. Many haven't even heard of the Tories. Agree we paid over the odds but we also know your mates in Chine basically bought all PPE in the World and then tried to cover up Covid costing us 2 months valuable time (I'm not saying the government would have done much better in those 2 months but who knows.) the Government panicked and paid stupid prices. As for the food parcels... obviously something has gone wrong. It's too early to get the full details but I agree we shouldn't be letting down starving kids.
Having worked for the GLC, ILEA and Southwark Council I can say that anything that is organised and run at such levels always has massive 'overheads' and companies that are on approved contractors lists usually have been through a massive hoop-jumping process just to get on that list. What you also find is 'work' or processes are regularly 'subbed out' to small firms in a local area. Profit is creamed off at every level which is why so many contracts have such ridiculously high costs. There were many contracts I was involved with that had the same subcontractor working for several of the main contractors, often at the same time. I asked one of them why they didn't bid for contracts themselves and they said the outlay was far too big a gamble as they would have to expand to meet the criteria, their boss said he was far better off being smaller and independent. As I said earlier size outweighs quality and is priced accordingly, that is across the board whether it's a building or catering contract...
where am I defending this? I have made it perfectly clear in my posts. I will say it again so you can understand... I agree we shouldn't be letting down starving kids. If you can't defend your corner stop coming out with terms like "embarrassing" you are sounding like a Labour broken record. I await the 'confused'/'mixed messages'.
There’s nothing confusing about the contempt this government has for poor people. I don’t need to defend any corner. Anyone can objectively see what’s happening here and if you pretend it’s all just innocent mistakes then good for you.
It's only because he has given first hand experience about the problems which don't suit your leftie argument. GCSE politics.
Have some GCSE economics then. A company with massive economies of scale should be able to source more than £1 worth of food for every pound you or I could rather than delivering a return of about 20p in the pound. Even better, just don’t use unnecessary middle men who have proven time and time again to offer **** value. They’re sourcing bread and apples. It’s really not that complicated.
Perhaps I should also add that political interference in processes from all sides has made things much more difficult at local level over the years. I worked 30 years under Tory and Labour governments and Labour GLC and both Labour and LibDem councils in Southwark. Constant policy changes as well as an incredible amount of new regulations via government and EU resulted in seemingly never-ending administration which for the vast majority of processes was filed away and eventually shredded or kept never to see the light of day. Look how well that worked for Grenfell. Under Blair's government this was ramped up to ridiculous levels with the number of PFIs that were taken on, which to councils cutting staff regularly just became impossible to administer. The Tories went even further and the result was that tranches of PFI schemes were given out in 'job lots' to one contractor. The one that resulted in my redundancy/retirement package was 12 school refurbishment/new builds awarded to Balfour Beatty in 2012, these included facilities maintenance contracts which took my job. It doesn't matter who is running things the whole set up of awarding contracts is riven with the same companies who all have cosy relationships with whoever is responsible, it's how it's always been and nothing will change, just look at how both the Tories and Labour successively have f*cked my local council Croydon to the point of bankruptcy...
I remember an amazing speech by the 'pig f22ker' Cameron where he ripped Labour apart with the amount of quangos and wasted money dished out to yoghurt knitting administration companies. Sadly the Tories seem to have emulated labour. I agree with some of what Watford was saying in that we need to get this food to the children without all the overheads and wasted money but sadly this seems to be the way they do things?
