That's what she's told me. I'm not convinced that anyone really knows enough about this at a local level, but she's now sufficiently worried about the mRNA vaccine with her comprimised immune system that she doesn't want it, only the Oxford one. Is there any logic there?
No idea mate. Is she due to get a jab because of her work? Otherwise I’m guessing she jhas a longish wait. There is a single dose vaccine from Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) which is under rolling review (trials not reported on yet) and could be approved next month. Think the UK has ordered a lot of doses and loads of us could end up with this one. Janssen is a decent company. Have to say that the mRNA technology is pretty brilliant, from my limited understanding. But it’s new and there will be lots of unknowns.
Her colleagues are getting vaccinated this week, and I imagine she'll get called forward at some point before she returns to work (looking like beginning of Feb, after nearly seven months off). I think it's the unknowns that they are more worried about than anything, and the safest option is to go with the AZ vaccine at a guess?
Well, I suppose the technology behind the AZ vaccine is better understood. It’s pretty likely that she will be offered this one anyway I would have thought. But from what we are told you don’t get to pick and choose which jab you have, you either get jabbed or decline. So Ireckon it’s up to the doctors to make the call. It would be ****ing handy to know whether she has any immunity from the first time round.
Not from what I'm hearing locally in the hospital - quite a few of the nursing staff there, who have yet to be immunised, have tested positive for a second time following an outbreak on one of the wards. They were getting tested weekly last year, all clear, and now some are positive again. Not sure if it's a serious/severe for them second time round but I'm damn sure I don't want it again with the risk of getting Long Covid after seeing what it's done to my wife.
Well I'm way down the pecking order for a vaccine but I would rather people more in need get them first anyway. See what happens to some of you old twats on here first!
Our Health Secretary, Handjob visited a doctor's surgery today to see the Oxford vaccine rollout, only to find that the vaccine delivery had not turned up https://www.itv.com/news/2021-01-07...trazeneca-covid-vaccine-does-not-have-the-jab
Not that I know enough about it but if people don't want genetically modified food in their bodies maybe they don't want genetically modified vaccines in there either
I think you're correct there, Kiwi. You don't know enough about it. Nor do I, to be fair. I know nothing, but I'll tell you this......
Did anyone hear the clap for heroes lastnight at eight, must admit I forgot all about it, but didn't hear anything down my road?
My partner and I would always support it but she was busy and so was I. I heard a brief noise for about 5 seconds, then it went dead. I don't think it will be as popular especially when the girl who organised it received a lot of online abuse. Nice
Stay safe down there guys and girls... Major incident declared in London as Sadiq Khan warns of ‘critical’ Covid threat facing hospitals Capital’s NHS is ‘on the cusp of being overwhelmed’ with virus now ‘out of control’ Mayor Sadiq Khan made the emergency declaration to fast-track national help for the NHS " please log in to view this image Mayor Sadiq Khan made the emergency declaration to fast-track national help for the NHS / AFP via Getty Images By Ross Lydall @RossLydall Nicholas Cecil @nicholascecil 14 minutes ago A major incident was declared across London today as the number of Covid cases and sick patients in hospital hit “critical” levels. Mayor Sadiq Khan made the emergency declaration to fast-track national help for the NHS, which he said was “on the cusp of being overwhelmed” and running out of beds. The virus is “out of control” in the capital, he said, and Londoners are under orders to obey the lockdown and not mix over the weekend. There are more than 7,000 Covid patients in London hospitals — almost 2,000 more than the first peak last April — and almost 1,000 are on ventilators.
Moderna vaccine proved, but the 17 million doses ordered won’t start arriving until ‘spring’. I’ll just consult my medieval farmers almanac to check when that might actually be. Ah. Anytime between 1 March and 31 May. Handy. Still think the Janssen single dose jab could be the game changer, fingers crossed it works as well as the AZ one. If the estimate that 3% of Londoners currently have the virus is accurate, on top of the 17% I seem to remember who were thought to have had it by the end of last summer, I assume that they are reaching herd immunity and that we shouldn’t be wasting any vaccine on them.
I’m sure it is, I think the idea is to get it under control. I suspect this will be like flu, the vulnerable at least will end up getting jabbed once a year or even more often (the London comment was facetious). Just seen today’s death count. ****ing hell.
