When I used to smoke I started off on Embassy Regal. A few of us would club together and buy a packet of 10 from the garage across the road from Mavis Skinners shop. First one I ever smoked properly was in Herrington Park. Went home and threw up. Didn’t stop me though, I’m not a quitter.

After Regal went onto Embassy No1 for a while then Marlboro then Benson and Hedges. After that it was Rothmans and then finished up on Silk Cut. I stopped 28 years ago the day after I met Mrs EJK.

So what were/are the forum members tabs of choice?

Arr smerked lerds 'o' tabs me as "Bugger all money" (the Geordie equivalent of Cockney plasterer Loadsamoney) would say. Pleased I gave up the price they are now it would be cheaper to take up crack cocaine

None, as a 5 year old, I used to play wag from school and sometimes help dad on his milk round. He had one of those 1964 Bedford TK trucks, cab over engine, flat beds. He would run up his customers path and leave his tab on the engine block cover (**** me those cabs were red hot). I took a drag and turned out to be the best thing I did. I also remember pissing myself, yes literally as a young child, when I was putting milk at the back gate of this house, which we had deemed was owned by a witch. I turned to leave and there she was, the old hag had me cornered as she thought I was pinching apples. One scream and me dad came running down the path and errm confronted her with language you would not expect from a gentleman. Oh I've digressed

Embassy no10 was one of the first at school. Small sliding packs of ten, probably made for wimmin and kids lol.
Went on to regal and no1.
Benson and hedges for a while in-between, also lambert and butler.
When they started getting expensive at probably £4 a pack (haha) there were a lot of imports.
Lads would sell them at work half price but then the snide tabs started creeping in.
I don't know how anyone could smoke them, fookin vile and full of fluff, dust and chinky pubes lol

I remember smoking some cheap tabs with 25 in a pack but can't remember their name.
Tried golden Virginia roll ups many times but could never get on with them.
Ended up smoking amber leaf with a filter and was i found the best cigarette I'd ever smoked.

I quit about 7 - 8 years ago.
I say quit, i cheated and I'm on the vape.

I started smoking in first year seniors (11) and luckily stopped by the time I was 14. There was a shop in Houghton near the Chinese that did a roaring trade selling singles to school kids.
Ciggy of choice was either Embassy Regal or Benson & Hedges Gold - it really depended on what me mam was smoking
Also dabbled with Woodbines & Park Drive - very cheap but awful.
Tried a few Capstan full strength, Camel and Gauloises which were pure cancer sticks.
If I was feeling sophisticated - it had to be Consulate

I smoked for a while when younger. I started off pinching one from my mam or dad, and they both smoked Embassy because they collected the cards and vouchers. When a bit older, and after listening to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (where "Winston cigarettes" are mentioned), I was in the newsagents and noticed they had some Winstons, so for a while that was my tab of choice. I never really smoked much though, and didn't particularly stick to any one brand.

My usual would have been whatever my mates were smoking.

None of me, my brother, my sister, or my cousins really smoked much, except my cousins Terry and Barry. Terry died of throat cancer, and last I heard, Barry wasn't in good health either. It's not a statistically relevant sample, but it's enough to put me off ever taking them up again.

I probably tried almost everything available at some point but as far as I'm concerned Regal were the best. Ended up on the lightest Silk Cut when I was preparing to quit which were pretty rubbish but did what I wanted I suppose.

Never liked rolling baccy at all, it'd do in a pinch but I really wasn't a fan of the taste.

Never a really heavy smoker, I started when I was around 10.
Used to buy “single” No6 from the corner shop.
Progressed to Regal, and when I became adult with more money, I progressed to Marlboro which I smoked until I stopped 10years ago on the 30th December.
That was without doubt the best decision I ever made in my life.
Having gone through heart surgery (valve replacement) almost 3 years ago, I doubt I would’ve lived to see that day if I was still smoking.
Whilst I’m not tempted to take up the habit again, I still have a craving at times, especially when I’m relaxing on holiday.

I never got on with roll ups like i said.
Me dad smoked old Holborn which was rank he went on to golden Virginia, which me mam smoked lol
But amber leaf was far better.
Capstan full strength was i remember what some kids considered "Tabs for men" along with woodbines.
I remember me granda would smoke the odd capstan and another filterless brand.
Player's navy cut possibly.
I suppose it stemmed from his days on tankers in the merchant navy during WW2.

I can also remember dabbling with John player special as a youngun.
Advertising was rife back then and they became popular through racing sponsorship with the Famous JPS with black and gold.

Martini with red white and blue very famous racing sponsor at the time too.

Crazy now to think we could buy cigarette sweets back then.
A small sliding pack with white sticks tipped with red and some other types, sticks wrapped in brown paper or something.

I remember the Chocarillo ones. I never smoked as my parents smoked tons and I recall moving house when I was about 10. The curtains in the lounge (where they smoked) were originally the same colour as those in the dining room but when we took them down and had them next to each other one set was a cream colour and the others were almost treacle - i vividly recall thinking "if that's what it's done to the curtains..."

Just noticed the ingredients of those Darlek ones. "Skaro" the number one ingredient

I can remember as a kid, the pictures taken off the walls to repaint the wood chip hahahaha.
There would be bright white squares on the brown walls where they'd been

Sugar soap to wash them before painting.
And that gloss on all the woodwork stunk for days after ffs.
Think me mam or dad used to put a cut onion out to counter it .

I started smoking at 16 benson and hedges
Then went onto embassy no 1
Smoked roll ups for a few years
I started 5 a side and a training programme 1978 and stopped smoking tabs
However I started smoking a pipe 1981 got the baccy war horse and condor of my dad
After he died in 1983 got all his smoking gear and started smoking st Bruno
I stopped the pipe in 1992
Then smoked Cuban Havana’s ( very expencive)
Got hooked on these because a friend came back from Cuba an sold me a few boxes after a few visits
Although when I went to Spain a few times a year I was always able to get my cigars a little cheaper
Nevertheless after a bad chest infection which lasted over 6 months i eventually
Gave up the cigars and I now have been smoke free since January 2013

Those chocolate ones were great, and I really liked the Spanish Gold coconut flavour rolling baccy.

I also remember as a kid having some little monkey thing where you put tabs in his mouth, and he blew smoke.

My mam used to get me to light her tabs for her when I was about 10 or so. Different times then though. They were menthol (Consulate?) so probably thought of as being good for you. My brother and I used to get a small cigar and a glass of whisky on Christmas day.
I managed to resist smoking full on until I was about 20, by which time all my mates had given up. Used to like Marlboro, Chesterfields, Winston - "toasted". The best were Lucky Strike when you could get them.
I smoked roll ups for a long time - Golden Virginia, Samson then ended up smoking unfiltered Old Holborn for ages.
After about 150 (brief) failed attempts to give up I eventually just went cold turkey about 10 years ago, when my mam died.
I still miss it, especially when work collegues go out for a puff.

I used to bloody love them chocolate ones.Started on players no 6 when I was about 13 but didn’t smoke many but used to spend hours around the towns night club bins collecting cigarette and match box packets there was a amazing amount of choice of cigarettes back then and some beautiful packets.

I don't smoke tobacco, I hate the stuff. When I was in school I used to smoke the odd regal king size but that was only because my mates did, I knew I'd never continue it when I left school and, I didn't.
