It's nearly ten months since we had Covid, and it's only in the last few weeks that Mrs SM is starting to show real signs of improvement, although nowhere near back to full strength. Covid, for us, was the easy part - Long Covid is a bitch, and they estimate there are 150,000 sufferers at the moment...

Figures from the Office for National Statistics published last week put the number of people with Long Covid in the UK at more than 150,000.

The ONS suggests one in 10 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in a household survey still had symptoms 12 weeks later - but this is still experimental.

Long Covid presents as a range of different symptoms suffered by people weeks or months after being infected, some of whom had not been very ill with the initial virus.

Fatigue is the most common problem, but breathlessness, a cough that will not go away, hearing and eyesight problems, headaches and loss of smell and taste have all been reported.

The numbers are now looking even worse, particularly in the south, but it’s bound to drift everywhere if it’s the ‘new extra transmissible’ variant of the virus. Had a lovely time over Christmas, took my mum home today, recommended that she’s extra careful for the next week or so until she gets her second shot. Sadly for my kids I fully expect tier review on Wednesday to put all areas current sharing a border with a tier 4 patch into tier 4, which would be us. And possibly the whole country, with schools closed as well. So my kids, who really have knuckled down with superb discipline for the last couple of weeks, still won’t have much socialising opportunity.

Let’s get this ****ing AZ thing approved, we have to speed up the vaccination programme and it’s the only way, though I’m deeply unimpressed with their CEO, Soriot, saying they have ‘figured out’ a dosing regime which gives the same results as ‘all the others’. Not if you haven’t trialled the dosing and submitted the data you haven’t matey. As far as I can tell the most trialled dose gives 62% protection, which is fine if enough people get it.

It's not looking pretty at all - Londons rates are frightening - nearly 800/100000, with the ambulance service saying it's been one of their busiest times ever...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55461390

It's a similar story up here, with hospitals close to bursting point

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-55458992

The whole of mainland Scotland is under Tier 4 for the next three weeks, but already they talking about extending that. Schools are currently planning for online teaching until 18th Jan, but imagine that will be pushed back too if the numbers rise as expected. Locally, I know a few people who have contracted Covid recently, and some of my sons friends were out on Christmas Eve, socially distanced in a venue that apparently had strict controls, and six tables have all had cases reported today. Whilst they may be young, if they caught it on Christmas Eve the potential for spreading it to relatives the next day when restrictions were lifted for 24hours is there for all to see....

Thankfully, he's been sensible having seen what my wife has been through and has not seen any of his pals, except his girlfriend.

An awful lot of previously healthy people have been suffering with similar symptoms for months at a time for this to be true.

So you too have a wife who is very ill ...and you obviously are a doctor who knows she has not got long Covid.??

Covid exists...Over 70,000 people have died if it
Many more have residual symptoms which persist for months and are called long Covid.

We have people in here affected by both Covid and long Civid

If you persist with upsetting people on here I will have no problem asking for you from being blocked from this forum.

    Please go away.
    I have asked nicely

Reading your posts are depressing. Have a bit of respect. Many people have died and listening to people like you only reinforces Watford’s belief that we have thick stupid people in this country.

I remain deeply sceptical about some of the government statistics regarding Covid-19. We're told that new cases have reached a record level and the main criterion quoted is cases per 100,000 of population. But these numbers are likely to be a function of the volumes of tests that are being carried out, and many 'new cases' will be asymptomatic and would not previously have been identified. Surely hospitalisations should be the best indicator. Undoubtedly these are very high, and I'm not arguing that there isn't a serious problem, but let's use meaningful statistics.

On hospitalisations, what happened to the Nightingale hospitals? I've been told that my forthcoming operation will be carried out at Central Middlesex, which has been designated as 'Covid-free' (i.e.no Covid patients are being sent there). Why wasn't this approach thought of at the outset?

the ONS data shows that 2020 is a slightly above average year for deaths, ie, a normal year, nothing significant has changed in the real world, its a complete NWO media creation to usher in the new normal thats been planned decades in advance, thats why all these countries, and so called nations state leaders all fell in line and sang from the same hymn sheet, unelected global governance is already in full swing and has been for a long time

A nice headline and solid name (see also the ‘Turing’ scheme) but a bit pointless without any staff.
