He was, though I remember playing Stockport (?) in the Cup at the Dell. Jones was in goal for them and pulled off a ridiculous save from a Tiss free kick, which from memory (thoroughly unreliable memory these days) meant we didn't win and then lost the replay?
Legend and nice bloke too. My Dad's company sponsored him for 2-3 years so I met him at the Player's dinner a few times. One standout moment for me though was when we lost in the last min to Spurs at WHL, we went and were outside as the teams were getting on the coach, he came over to us in the crowd and spoke to us and then I mentioned that my daughter was 'in love' with James Beattie. He went on the coach and got him and brought him over to us to have a picture and sign a few bits. He even held back others whilst James spoke to my daughter. Really lovely gesture that my now 30 year old daughter still talks about to this day.
Saw him at Farnboro in a local derby v Basingstoke At that level he was phenomenal, I wondered why he wasn't playing higher up the pyramid ... ... and then he was
Forum was really good today and I got a question in to Ralph Seemed to get Ralph going so I'm pleased Martin S & Toby S were very good, you could see they're all a great team
I asked him about the gegenpressing and the fact that other teams know what we do now and some of them do the same. Does he ever have to change our style to combat this? He said that they don’t know the detail of what we do so the philosophy stays the same even though the detail changes and went on to talk about the players desire to play this way and get better at it. He said that at the team dinners after games they didn’t want to talk about cars and whatever, they wanted to talk football Martin talked about our model of coaching players in our style from the start and not loaning so much as they wouldn’t be playing in our way at other clubs. He also said we want to buy players who we can develop to play to that style. Ralph referenced Theo and how much he wanted to come here and how he could see that he could play for us. He turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere. Toby said Financially we’re ok and talked some detail on that Really interesting forum. Ralph’s a bloody genius. We have a clear vision The future’s bright, the future’s red and white
