Possibly harsh but not like I’m calling for the guys head, far too soon for that. I do think this jeckle and Hyde form is something that will continue though. As I say, I would sooner see us being consistent at a slightly lower level over all as we seem to have more lows than highs and to me, it’s not worth it. When we go 2-0 down it’s game done as the side has a soft underbelly and fall apart when things get tough. There’s certain traits that we should expect from an Leicester side in that they don’t quit as the saying goes which is what I am disappointed with. Agree re defence and in attack we just seem very static and not looking for the spaces. My favourite showing this season was Leeds when Vardy and Barnes were pressing and pressing and forcing mistakes, other than that we just seem very lacklustre. Set pieces is another area where we just seem to be poor at both ends, a professional footballer shouldn’t be failing to beat the first man as often as Maddison does. I guess that training time is very much limited with the mid week games every week but you just want to see evidence of mistakes learned from.
Might be a bit of a communication thing with Fofana ... couple if recent mistakes suggest he may not have understood what Evans was telling him do ... or maybe he just got caught in 2 minds ... either way his potential us massive and he just needs an arm around the shoulder and some encouragement ... and possibly more English lessons On the positive side, James Justin is growing as a player game by game
United apparently interested in Harvey Barnes ... Every player has his price ... although when we sell to United it tends to be double
I see some similarities between Harvey Barnes and Demarai Gray. Both show potential, but never quite produce that consistency that singles out the top players. I'd like to see Barnes imposing himself more. Maybe it's all in the name. 'Harvey' just doesn't have that combative ring about it. Maybe he should consider changing it. He's a big lad and needs to show some fight to get the ball back when he loses it and then make things happen. Too often he falls to the ground or just puts in a lame token challenge and stops. Like a previous post says - it's time to get back to the 'Foxes never quit' and 'Fearless' mentality if we really are serious about wanting to win anything.
To be fair Barnes is already putting up better numbers for the second season in a row than Gray ever has and we are only a third if that into this season. If anything, the missed chances show that he could be truly great if he finds that consistency but he has all the tools. Barnes’ weaknesses seem symptomatic of the whole team. As you say (and it is my post you are referring to), the talent is there across the squad as a whole but the application and mentality is not there. Hopefully, Rodgers is the guy to change this.
Today's team against Sheffield United - Hope I am proved wrong but I just don't get it. Under and Barnes on the bench - Perez and Albrighton starting ?? That doesn't seem to have an attacking intent about - maybe to do with squad rotation ??
Five defenders again against rock bottom Sheff Utd, two holding midfielders, and Perez back in from the cold. I certainly hope I'm proven wrong but I'm not very confident right now. Shouldn't we be taking the game to them?
Perez has played well tbf and we have shown much more creativity than we have for a while ... could ... and perhaps should be at least 2 up at the break ...
Relieved over the win today rather than pleased. I don't understand why we didn't go with a more attacking formation against opposition who had only scored 4 times all season. Defies all logic. It's like asking the team to go out and play with one leg tied behind their back. Brendan has to be more positive in the 'easier' games to offset points we will drop against the better teams. And why can we not defend set pieces? We had 3 big central defenders playing today and still conceded. And when was the last time we scored from our own set piece? Was it Matt Elliott or Steve Walsh?
Perez playing centrally, behind the striker suits him much more, he has an eye for a threaded pass and did quite well today. Maddison actually looked to try and go past players which, if successful, opens up a host more chances and opportunities. Glad Ndidi is back now, definitely an upgrade on Mendy, not wanting to disparage Mendys efforts so far this season.
Now now Bucks, Stevie Howard’s bullet header against Leeds in league one was a lot more recent than that Agree more relieved than pleased today, feel we won in spite of Brendan’s madness and has had Vards to thank. It’s frustrating to think with a positive manager and our better players back just how good we could be...
Thought Evans was excellent today. His positioning was excellent and cut out a few dangerous crosses. Can we please replace Maddison on corners! All in all, a much needed 3 points.
Think we all agree Maddison is rubbish at corners. Can forgive his ambition from the free kick that went in to row z but what a ball for Vardys winner, sublime.
Can't see much improvement than over Fulham tbh, struggling to beat a side that has 1 point all season, still playing very defensively even though they will sit back and cause us very few problems from open play. The use of Perez tactical change was better though, as he was getting into better positions than Under and Barnes would have taken up wider. Most concerning is that we seem to be beating the dynanism/creativity out of Forfana, lots of sideways passes and doesn't seem to be looking for the through balls towards people like Maddison any more, made him look like Big Wes.
I'd sacrifice dynamism/creativity in Fofana. We have other players further up the pitch to take care of that side of things. I just want him to be able to defend. Very poor attempt to get the corner away from which Sheffield Utd scored. Let's start getting a few clean sheets. The fact that you can rely on your defence to deal with everything thrown at them (like the title winning defence) spreads confidence throughout the whole team.
In fairness didn't Albrighton put it behind with his right when he might just have swung his left to clear upfield?... one thing you don't do against Sheff United (or Burnley) is give corners away other than as a very last resort ....
Another way to look at it (Albrighton) is if it doubt knock it out.... Remember Liverpool away last season where he didn’t whack it out and instead his breath unfortunately caused Mane to fall over!
