Very true. It is remarkable that he walked away from a car that disintegrated around him. Contrast this with Martin Donnelly’s crash in 1990, where he survived but very much didn’t walk away. Googling that crash is not for the faint hearted.
To walk away from that with minor injuries is a massive pat on the back for all involved in the safety of the drivers etc. The marshals where superb. I believe he was in the car for over 10 seconds surrounded by a ball of fire.
They were mostly superb. When Perez caught fire near the end, a marshal pegged it across the track in front of Norris. I understand he was desperate to get there but **** me, you wouldn't catch me running across a track like that. That could have been nasty. And Stroll rolling upside down put me right on edge. Same track next weekend, too. Different lay out, but still, I'm not looking forward to it.
Don't know if you'll remember this from 2010 IoM Senior TT? Guy Martin crashes at 170mph, bike explodes in flame chucking him thru the fireball and 1/4 mile down the road; his first words to the paramedic who runs to him is ''don't cut my effing leathers off'' - these car and bike racers don't all escape so lightly but, the one's that do? It's nothing short of a miracle ...
Looks like Hamilton will miss the next GP after a +ve Covid test. As it’s all about the car & not the driver I’m sure his, as yet unnamed, replacement will secure pole & another win for Mercedes.
i actually dont mind hamilton on the track but mr aberdeen if you cant see much like when liverpool used to win the title every year and then man u took over years later the same applies in any sport, it gets boring with the same winner year in year out and you cant help but root for the underdog. add in the best car head and shoulders giving him an unfair advantage and its all too easy to just get pissed off with it all and him fan boys like yourself must be able to see this. as this is why the majority dont want to give him the credit his results on paper deserve put hamilton in a renault as an example for the last 7 yrs and put any one of 7 or 8 other drivers in a mercedes and THEY would be touted as the greatest driver ever. if you cant see that then you are missing the whole point of my argument. im saying much of his domination is because much like vettels time at the top down to the car the car is making him look much better than he is. he used to make lots of errors tactically and disagreeing with his team and spitting his dummy out. button admitted hamilton was faster but knew how to beat him at times. f1 got stupid with tyre management and fuel saving as important as out and out racing. luckily for hamilton the mercedes was fantastic at both, hiding hamiltons inability to be more than average at both of these (i admit crazy) aspects of race craft. i actually think a lesser driver in his car with more focus would have gained better results, especially if they didnt try hanging out with the cool guyz making chunes.... hamiltons strength is undoubtedly as a saturday driver and i admit he is up there as one of the best but come sunday he has a few traits that his car papers over. put him in a lesser car and they would surface and he would get impatient and take the risks he used to take and it would snowball, sulking lack of focus etc. you cannot deny he is capable of that if you like him you are probably blind to his faults but in anything but a merc and they would be apparent much like verstappens desperation to win in a lesser car and he feels obliged to be too aggressive and takes too many chances i dont normally like aussies but put ricciardo in a mercedes alongside hamilton and we would see how great hamilton really is. he showed the world how good vettel actually was. but then webber had done that years earlier in the twilight of his career and leclerc as a young un has recently hammered the final nail in. if hamilton had done it on a level playing field he would be the greatest no doubt
what an excellent opportunity for george russell to show the world exactly how good the mercedes is. and bottas. borrowed off williams to take hamiltons seat his first drive and he should be nowhere i will be watching with interest
I just can't understand how he can adore his father, but accuse his mother of systemic racism. He's a fortunate son, as Jon might say.
f1 got lucky with tyre management? thats one of the biggest driving skills in the world the reason hamilton destroys bottas on race pace is becasue he controls the tyres, its an incredible skill the sharper you turn a corner, you put heat into the tyre which degrades it, less grip one tiny lock up, shreds the tyre, meaning less grip hamilton has always been incredible at it, but he's average at it? a lesser driver would get better results cause hamilton is doing 'chunes'? this is utter racism lol hamiltons strength is race pace and not qualifying, hence why bottas can beat him in qualy you are completely contradicting yourself in every way you are listing his faults like its 2008 again, when yea he was a rookie who beat a two time world champion? also qualifying is a huge skill but race pace, race pace you can learn with experience and only the greats have it, to be able to be fast over 50 laps, that is a skill the best have but hamilton as i explained is a master at tyre management, more than you and i can comprehend he's a master in rain or wet conditions, always has been rosberg beat him once, when hamilton had a huge amount of mechanical issues, plus rosberg beat schumacher in the mercedes and rosberg retired, because he couldn't deal with the stress and pressure of competing against hamilton, he won once and quit, hamilton is relentless listen, if you want to discredit hamilton, you need to try far harder than this incoherent jibberish i saw you are a poster from 2011 i think you've had brain trauma, cause you type less coherently than i do when pissed hamilton might be a **** or so, but he is one of the 'regular' guys, he didnt grow up rich, his father sacrificed everything to get him into karting, he got picked up by mclaren who paid for his early formula career that costs hundreds of thousands, hamiltons father couldnt afford that but its the nature of motorsport and imho, many people dislike hamilton cause he's mixed race i genuinely believe it if he was white, there'd be half the criticism 'how dare he say i save carbon footprint' etc if he wasnt a hypocrite, hed quit it all and live in a shack its passive racism or he only pays tax that you couldnt pay in 10 life times, but no hes a tax dodger he does what any single guy earning 40m a year does target amazon and the like for your hate
Some very good points you make. One thing many people are not aware of is how much input the driver has in the development of a car. When Hamilton left McClaren many were questioning his move, as Mercedes didn't have such a great history in F1. But along with his input into the design, set up and as you pointed out management of tyres, he was instrumental in making the car competitive.
i genuinely believe if hamilton was white, it would be far less criticism, its passive racism and i stand by it never once did i see criticism for jenson buttons monaco home
George Russell has heavy links to Mercedes, and at some point could be a replacement for Bottas. I fully expect he'll do well this weekend. He'll also have the full backing of Barchullona!
Who is the best driver is always open to the argument of who has the best car, who has the best tyres etc etc., What we can say about Lewis H. is that he is the most successful driver in formula 1. history. He has better wins stats, more poles, more wins, and equal number of world titles with the potential to win more still. He is British and the colour of his skin matters not one jot to me. He are lucky to have such a champion and I salute him.
