Volkswagen was struggling with just one factory in Wulfsburg, when the Brits ended up lumbered with it at the end of the war, and the British Army delegated responsibility to a British Soldier, Major Ivan Hurst, who turned it around, leading to the company it is today.

We were offered Volkswagen. Some expert said it wasn't worth having. We had Austin...

Hamilton is without any doubt one of the best drivers of all time, his record backs that up. Would The drivers of old be able to cope with these demands and vice versa? Simply it's opinions and not facts, subjective.

It's the same argument about who was or is the best heavyweight boxer of all time it is a flawed argument because times change. Tyson, Ali, Lewis? The list is long. I can't argue who is the best only have an opinion.

It was actually Hillman who were offered it and turned it down, saying "We cannot see a future for this car".

It's up there with the bright spark at Decca who turned down The Beatles.

If you listen to the Beatles audition tapes you can see why. Though he denied what Eastern said about the reason. Of course he did sign the Stones. George Martin was also sceptical at first but heard them do more of their own stuff and saw something in them.

Not really, fighters that got beaten by Ali, such as Foreman, came back when they were a shadow of their former selves and they could still hold their own against the more recent fighters, quite comfortably.

I remember that race and it was pure driving genius from Schumacher that day to finish second when his car was stuck in fifth gear.* That said I couldn't stand the cheating bastard, but always respected his ability.

* Carmine is going to drive to work tomorrow using fifth gear all the way, including two pit stops, just as Schumacher managed to do, piece of piss! :emoticon-0100-smile
I haven't watched F1 for a long time it has become to predictable!
I used to like it and one the best races I ever watched was Jensen Buttons charge to win from the back to win in Canada !

Some maybe, but who was the best heavyweight ever same with F1 drivers and many more world class sportsmen and women. On paper Hamilton is the best the records say that but is he really? I can't answer that.

Short of Brian Moore presenting an F1 edition of Who's The Greatest, from beyond the grave, whether Hamilton is better than Schumacher or Senna or Fangio is purely subjective.
Its personal choice isnt it ?
Some say Pele
Others Maradona, Cruyf etc

God there's some ****e on this thread.

Hamilton is obviously one of the best ever F1 drivers, and statistically IS the best ever. Is he a likeable person? Obviously not entirely as many get wound up by him. Who gives a **** where he lives. Oooh Sean Connery etc etc etc. He's driving in the best car as he's the best driver, so he wouldn't be driving for Haas for a start. The whole Formula Racing industry is set up to bring through natural talent from a young age. My daughter is good friends with a young lad who will be in F2 next season and is working his way up from karting to hopefully the top - I can assure you the dedication is remarkable, even more so considering still trying to finish school etc.

Hamilton's old man did what he had to do to give his son every opportunity - ****ing good luck to him I say. Most wouldn't have the balls to do it.

And when did Andy Murray become everyone's cup of tea? Great tennis player undoubtedly who has been unlucky with injury and with other greater players around at the same time. Miserable git though. If he is a Knight then Lewis Hamilton should be too. ****ing stupid to suggest otherwise.

I reckon Hamilton is disliked because he comes across as a pompous, hypocritical preacher with no real understanding of other peoples views. It's not a good look. :emoticon-0105-wink:
