he wasn't running away he was attacking and out in front like always, he always led from the front and would not ask the lads to do what he wouldn't do, on that particular day we were cleaning out machine gun nests, normally with a Karl Gustav civies call it a bazooka, quickest way to get rid of them . however the one H attacked at the base of the hill was protected about 50 yards away by another nest well hidden, the hierarchy was on his back to get it done quickly, we lost a lot of gear on the support ships hit by exocet missiles, and the helicopters we didn't have, would have made life easy drop the other side of the hill and gustav them from the high point.

no mate he was one that got back home, after the Germans reinforced with panzers it was fruitless as they only had light arms a bren was the biggest they had in his squad and ammo was running down, they were told to try and make it back toward our lines, he got caught put his hands up, one of the 4 took a shot and he lost 3 fingers trying to surrender, so he was off like a shot but running caused a bigger blood loss, he jump into a big blackberry bush went to the bottom and they ran past , found a farm the woman's husband had been shot for hiding the food, she hid him for 4 days in an underground food bunker, when the allies got closer he managed to cross and get back

I would just like to add, the treatment of the majority of ex military, many down on their luck or suffering PTSD by successive governments is a ****ing disgrace.

Fair play Makem and thanks. I can't imagine what it was like to be in battle. <ok> There was a story going round that the RAF reg were too slow in setting up the rapier missle system and this let the argie pilots attack the ship where the Welsh lads were. Apologies if I've got that wrong.<ok>

Yep. It's an absolute ****ing disgrace. Also the way the Gurkhas were shafted. You can fight for us but you can't come and live here. ****ing despicable. And then the law does **** all to someone burning poppies in the street. We could do with a military coup to sort out the ****s that run (and have run) this country. Can you sort one out Makem? Only if your pro-Brexit though:grin:

i did my pt instructors course at Aldershot, by the swimming pool, in the yearly pfa test i had to take the regiment to pass in two weeks every 3 days taking around 30 with full kit and rifle for the 10 kilo run then over the assault course then on the ranges if you did not pass you were medically downgraded and kicked out if you were strat reserve.
