Didn't get past the first sentence.

A conservative country?

A country of 300 million, of three different time zones, vastly differing climates, cultures, ethnic groups, religions, traditions, urban and rural....and you lazily lump them all together as a ;conservative country' like it's a bigger version of Luxembourg?

The most ridiculous post of the day.

6 different time zones. Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific and then Alaska and Hawaii have there own.

How have all the other states managed to count all their votes in a timely manner?

they haven't. most of the states are still counting but have declared a winner as the outcome is a forgone conclusion. For example, California. Only 66% of the votes counted to date but Biden is so far ahead that even if all the uncounted votes went to Trump he still couldn't win.

He's ****ing crackers is Bannon. And also one of the most influential men on the planet, somehow. Some of his acolytes still lurk in influential positions around the world, some in this country.
The problem is that there are enough nutters with guns there that will attempt to do whatever Bannon or the Commander-In-Chief incites them to do. Trump says there is vote fraud without a shred of evidence...cue the following

Any country that demands the right to own a gun just because it can, still has a legal death penalty and holds religion to a higher authority than human beings is conservative. I don't know why you're even arguing this.

What about one that has legalized marijuana and has decriminalised other drugs? Or one which supports death with dignity (euthansia)?

That's more out of fear, though. They know that the current leadership enables their way of life and their rhetoric. Any change puts pressure on them to wind their necks in and that's why they're throwing themselves at Trump's feet, because if/when Biden wins, they won't feel comfortable being so extrovert in their views.

It doesn't mean that liberal things can't come out of it, the black rights movement began in the US, for example.

It's not as conservative as, say, Yemen or Pakistan, but on the whole it still clings to values that really don't have a place in a steadily more progressive world.

It's funny reading some of the more extremist on here making sweeping generalisations, when their whole ethos seems to be to back anyone that's not Trump, no matter what the other person's issues may or may not be.

Seriously, if you hired an agency babysitter, and Joe Biden turned up on your door to do it, would you still go out? :emoticon-0102-bigsm

you are right about large swathes of the US. But there are vast differences between (for example) the midwest states that voted for Trump and the West (aka Left) Coast. In many ways CA/OR/WA would be better off seceding from USA, perhaps with British Columbia which is similarly different to eastern Canada.

Of course you would but you'd take the baby with you.

Give me the gist of it.

the gist is that from a count displayed on tv at around 2am over there the (no idea which time zone) and from a count displayed many hours later on the bbc website it was possible to calculate the numbers of expected votes to be counted. the difference between the two figures was around 290k, which was around 8-9%. bit of a big jump.

Similarly Trump built the wall with Mexico yet the Latinos voted for him so if we could redraw North America and annex Mexico into Trumpland in exchange for the West Coast joining liberal Canada we have a better balance?

There's no need for passive comments, you can address me directly. I'm not being extremist at all.

I'd back any Republican that was competent and if I considered them the best person for the job.

Furthermore, I wouldn't base my opinion of somebody on poorly sequenced pictures of them with children, because the accusation of ****philia is something I take incredibly seriously and wouldn't be something I would throw around without actual evidence.

My views on Trump are framed by what he does and says, which I can see for myself. I don't have things like Facebook, I watch these people live and I'm not interested in Youtuber's opinions on what they say and do. For the sake of America, I wanted Trump to be better than I thought he would and, to my complete unsurprise, he came nowhere near. I listed earlier some of the things he did that were repulsive, but they're well known and it's like shouting into the void.

What's more disappointing is how people shrug and go "meh, dats Trump." People became so used to his **** they just stopped calling him out on it, which has led to incompetence on a grand scale vis a vie Coronavirus and the deaths of over a quarter of a million people. A more responsible president, regardless of party, would not have allowed the virus to spread so badly and certainly wouldn't have told people to just carry on as normal or hold events with thousands of people crammed in together. I don't know when people started tolerating bare faced lies on such a grand scale, but it's frightening

When people talk about Trump positively, it sounds like they're happy to get what they want regardless of the means, as if they want it at any cost. Are his supporters that desperate for America to be partisan and dangerous that they'll just flat out believe everything he says? Suppose with people like that, if they haven't got an enemy to fight, they lose meaning in life and I can't imagine anything more pointless than living a life searching for a battle, especially one that doesn't have a winner.

Countries work best when there's unity. In the last decade, two countries with the word "united" in their name couldn't have been any less so, people are judged on their political views instead of who they are as a person and as a result it brings out the worst in people. We've fallen victim to the partisanship that plagues America. We have. Which, for British people, is piss poor.

I'll admit, I have a short fuse when it comes to ultra conservatism, but that's because to me it's the antithesis of progress. It's in the name, "conserve". I don't want to conserve, I want to progress. I don't want countries that want to stand alone and beat their chests, I want countries that want to be part of a bigger picture. We're all part of the same species, but we don't act like it, we disappoint ourselves and don't reach the potential we have. With people like Trump in the most powerful seat in the world, we never will. Somebody who thrives on divisiveness and putting themselves first isn't going to push for scientific progress, technological advancement or social justice in case it infringes on the views of their fan base. These decisions cost votes at the most basic level, but the bigger cost is in progression. Even so, there are Republicans in the US and Conservatives in the UK that are good, even great politicians and in my eyes would make very good leaders. Which makes it all the more annoying that we settle for so much less and then claw at each other when criticism abounds because they're not doing a very good job.

This world isn't for me, it's for my daughter, that's how I see it. And if she and millions of others her age turn on the TV and see the most powerful man in the world lying, cheating and acting like a petulant child, she's going to wonder what the hell we were playing at. That really matters. It's not about us. It's about those who take our place. We can be better and we start with the people at the top; left, right, centre, up, down, back in time. Whatever. We vote these people in and they're a reflection of us as a society.

If that's extremist, I'll wear it as a badge of honour. I really don't care.

That's because the US channels (depending on which ones you watch), assume wins based on projections when not all votes have been counted. It's a bit daft, but the BBC refuses to do so.

The rumour stems from misinformation. The numbers doing the rounds on twitter were based on registered Wisconsin voters at the 2018 mid term elections, which are inaccurate because more people registered to vote this time around. It doesn't, however, include people who registered to vote on election day, which was rather a lot and where the big jump came from.

It had nothing to do with fraud and everything to do with the person making the meme using the wrong numbers.

They can go chill with Hawaii.

Not a chance am I reading all that. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Contrary to what you'd like to believe, it's not all about you. I rarely read your posts, but '*****philia' caught my eye. You may want to look up the actual definition of that word, rather than the ignorant and lazy way it gets used. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Contrary to what you'd like to believe, it's not all about you. I rarely read your posts.

Don't read it then. Here's the TLDR;

We've slipped as a society, we can't progress without unity and we don't achieve unity as a species by electing divisive figures like Donald Trump to lead the most powerful nation in the world. We need to think more about future generations and consider our generations as having had their time.

I'd guessed that was the gist that it would be, most of your posts are simply that repeatedly. You tend to ignore that there are two sides to the skism, and a big percentage of that Country still disagree with you, possibly because the violence and destruction was heavily from one side. That same side is the most racist according to many black commentators, and some of Biden's previous comments should make you concerned.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how it progresses, as they can't just snipe from the sidelines. The pressure is now on them to deliver, and prior to Covid, the US economy was growing at a great rate, and unemployment, particularly among minority groups was falling fast. The first step will be to show how they'd actually tackle covid, rather than just saying 'not like that' despite advocating far worse in the early stages, and criticising the blocking of travel from affected countries.
