Yeah what Jak said. Shutting down early, stopping international travel, having proper testing, trace isolate in place etc.

I’ve got a mate who lives in China. Back in February they were required to have an app that gave them a green code to go into shops etc. Then it was one person from each household for 1 hour per day. You had your temp taken at the entrance and you had to prove that you had a green code.

They got on top of it really quickly. I asked him how many people he knew who’d had the virus and he said none. This is the the country where it originated. I know several close friends who’ve had it and I’ve lost a mate to it. We are in October and this govt still can’t sort out a proper test and trace system.

Not a good time to be newly thrown on the jobs market either. Hopefully most of those people will have been looking for new opportunities long before this month.

Definitely, in August we had a job vacancy starting September, we normally get 6-8 applcants for this kind of job, at final count we had 137 for this one, many over qualified. Now things have taken a severe downturn for the business, we're having to make 7 of the 35 workforce redundant, those will be hard conversations, 5 of those will have been with us for 3 years or more, nice hard working people but we have no choice.

The Labour party would surely have their house in order and would be so much better at this.

    Oh...

Can't we just form solidarity for once that all MP's and political parties do not have anything in common with us? We've seen MP's from every major political party acting like the rules don't apply to them during this pandemic. They have all used this pandemic and people dying to further their political agenda's.

    **** them all.

That tweet is utterly disingenuous though. As he actually said weeks and weeks and weeks, and was patently referring to the extended lockdown that we saw earlier in the year.

All Starmer has put forward is what the Govts own advisory group SAGE recommended weeks ago, which was the ‘circuit break’ 2 week lockdown that’d stop the exponential growth in infections.

He’s been accused of playing politics with the crisis for merely backing what the experts have told the Govt. Up until that point Starmer has backed the Govt on virtually every measure, he’s only really held their feet to the fire on the disastrous waste of public funds around the failed App and the track and trace system that was hived out to the private sector and has been an absolute dog’s knob.

It’s literally the job of an effective opposition to challenge the executive on matters of policy yet the minute they actually do they’re being accused of playing politics. The entire thing should have probably been steered by a cross party group from the off, but instead we’ve seen this Govt rely on an unelected bobble head who’s forte is 3 word slogans.

The point you’re - I assume deliberately - missing, is that there is a world of difference between a short, time limited circuit breaker, and the current incoherent mash up of open ended and constantly shifting multi tier restrictions. You’re comparing apples to oranges.

Yeah but apart from the Tories lying about Ashworth discussing a full lockdown as opposed to a circuit breaker, and apart from the Tories lying about Ashworth discussing a long lockdown as opposed to a short one, what else did the Tories lie about in this 280 character tweet?
