You don't think the 100m sweetener might sway them? I reckon they lose sight of everything for a quick buck, look at the new Wembley and the half empty corporate stands (though it is all empty atm). They'll probably stick a clause in for an annual payment or something.

I bet they'd want to keep their veto though, sure that'd come into play should relegation ever try and be removed completely.

I just think it naturally repulses most people, but then again, so did the Prem. That wasn't formed for the best reasons of love, peace and altruism either. I don't WANT a Euro league, but the top clubs, especially after Covid, are going to do what they can to get back that money. I too laugh my 'nads off at Barca losing £100m, but history tells us, with billions at stake, that they won't let this go on for long.

Have you seen the Italians are pushing for it. Head of Juve iirc. There's definitely an agenda here. The last argument against a Euro super league just disappeared - namely the logistics of fans travelling, but now with Covid that's no longer an issue.

I honestly can't remember how much ppl could foresee the negatives of the prem before it came about but it definitely did a lot for the game and its popularity as well. I can't see any merit in this. It's wholly cynical in its attempt to rinse money at the expense of the sport.

Only under this proposal relegation for the established PL clubs would be virtually removed.

As the plan would see the winners get £160m but the bottom club only £40-50m - they get over £100m now.
In addition the promoted clubs would be made to ‘put aside’ £25m of their first years payment, as the parachute payments would be gone. So it’d be virtually impossible for the 2 clubs coming up, to stay up, so the league would in essence become a 16 club league with 2 EFL clubs taking part on rotation.

Cunning as a cunning thing, and not at all ****ing obvious.

The game will just lose all popularity

this ain't just seen as a negative at home in Britain, speaking to fans out here in Norway the kinda foreign fans that clubs put in effort to attract it's seen as a ****ty, ****ty idea.

I honestly cannot foresee a single way it can be successful in Europe where fans are perfectly happy with the current product.

It is purely a big expensive way to try and fix something that ain't broke. it boggles the mind.

I remember Zidane winning the league, he said that the "Champions League is a nice trophy, but winning the league what matters, it's the most important for Real Madrid"

How can you justify to Madrid fans, the manager, everyone, that actually La Liga is tin pot trophy.

The gap's so big that I don't see them ever getting relegated anyway tbh, though I take your point.

I think this stadium funding thing could be a Trojan raising of the drawbridge too (!), to mix metaphors. In five years time , just turn around and say 'your stadium needs to be this big and have these facilities to take part' and we'll never see another Bournemouth or such like again.

I wasn’t really meaning them, more the clubs who fancied their chances of surviving this season, being virtually guaranteed to retain their status ad infinitum.

Isn't that already the case with minimum capacity to play in the prem?

No. There's regulations on media spaces etc but nothing about capacity as far as I'm aware.
