Spot on !! For me it was the Agincourt every Thursday evening, mods everywhere.
The Adg in Camberley? Me too. Saw loads of bands there Gino Washington a big favourite, Pink Floyd one of the most memorable. Duke of York pub, the Primo next door (brilliant Juke box) and the 24 hour Little Chef also on the circuit. Big C North Camp and the Harvest Moon Guildford amongst other venues a bit further afield. Not forgetting the London pubs and clubs and summer weekend trips to Bournemouth, Brighton and beyond.

Yes, the Adg in Camberley. I came from Basingstoke and used to go everywhere to see Gino, he’s still going. Took my wife and kids to see him in Reading a couple of years ago, what A disappointment!! He was on another planet between numbers. Harvest Moon Saturday nights, amazing music, memories forever.

Was Basingstoke a big town back in the 60s? When did it “start” as a London over spill?

In 1957 when i moved to Basingstoke the population was about 20,000 and then by the late sixties about 50,000. There’s an excellent facebook page, Basingstoke history.

I’m an Alton lad originally with my Mum having family in Basingstoke, so spent a lot of time there in the 70s. I’m not on Facebook so won’t get to read that. I always thought Old Basing was the “original” Basingstoke.

I wonder if anyone in Basingstoke is considering buying Saints... to bring it back in topic

The name Basingstoke is believed to have been derived from the town's position as the outlying, western settlement of Basa's people. The ending -stoke means outlying settlement or possibly refers to a stockade that surrounded the settlement in early medieval times. Basing, now Old Basing, a village 2 miles to the east, is thought to have the same etymology, and was the original Anglo-Saxon settlement of the people led by a tribal chief called "Basa".

Lifted from wikipedia....I have not suddenly become all knowing (though am working on it).

There are two very simple rules in life. Never go north of Oxford and never, ever, ever go east of the Hamble.
If only it were so simple,
Never venture north of Southampton.
Look out for loose women outside the camp gates.
Never reside in a country featuring the colour green in its flag.
Avoid eating in restaurants who laminate their menus in plastic

Ireland, Wales and Italy are three countries I could easily imagine living in. Albeit 2 of them would require you to go north of Soton.

More info on the takeover:

1. Deal is in place and numbers have been agreed between Gao & DaGrosa
2. Main financing is coming from NYC based private equity firm
3. Decision is now with premier league
4. Potential conflict of interest as the NYC private equity firm have also provided capital to other premier league sides - albeit not actually invested in them. This is likely to be a blocker to the deal and the reason behind premier league's apprehension.

Yeah sounds dodgy as **** to me. They provide capital to other clubs? Can't see the PL allowing that.
