Alex Scott is going to be the new presenter of A Question of Sport. Apparently, she was considered the best person for the job. The best person for every job these days it seems. Maybe she could be both captains and answer her own questions, too.

That is from Martin Samuel's column. No doubt some idiot from Pocklington will be going on to ask him if he is a racist.

You have to feel sorry for the lass, she is being used in a bigger game.by the BBC and promoted too high too soon.

Over exposed, and people realise this.

I've seen some patronising stuff on this board but this really takes the biscuit! Go congratulate yourself.

Why? Even Martin Samuel one of, if not the, best journalists around is making the same point. What’s your problem with what he’s put. Explain that and have a debate
If you can't see what's patronising about that then you have a problem Chazz.

I haven't read what Martin Samuel thinks but I'd be surprised if he said 'he feels sorry for the lass'.

See you’re just attacking the poster not the point
Your opinion is it’s patronising
I don’t see that I do see this woman being fought over by the beeb sky probably bt for all I know
Why? imho because she ticks a lot of boxes

Yes I thought the poster was patronising.

Whether she'll be good at the job or not I don't know, need to see her in action.

Read about some of the problems she has had in recent years with drink, online trolls, mental issues etc and you might come to the conclusion that this very rapid elevation to a high profile job at the expense of some who had no done no wrong and is still competent, could result in more unwanted attention and criticism.

She is being over exposed and may regret it if people out there perceive she is not there on merit and voice their opinions online etc

Hope this helps.

PS Eilidh Barbour would have got my vote if Sue Barker is to be replaced.

You might well be right but I'll bet she doesn't want people feeling sorry for her.

Who has decided she is good at that job? Middle-aged white men who want to tick boxes.

What skills or abilities are needed to be the 'host' of AQOS?

A background as a top level UK sportsperson is a big help, an outgoing cheery disposition, quick-wittedness etc

In grown up broadcasting, bein able to speak proper is not essential but a big help if you mean to make a career out of it.

I'm led to believe Frank Bruno is currently brushing up on his skills to replace Suzi Perry on moto gp.

Instead of discussing, questioning or complaining about the increase in the number of intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable black sportsmen and women being appointed to these roles, why don’t we question why it’s taken so long to do so. Many of them are far better qualified to do the jobs than their less qualified white peers and nobody seemed to question that?

Unfortunately some of those are none of those. Of course the same is true of white pundits and commentators.
Patrice Evra is more eloquent and speaks better than a lot of them and English isn't even his first language.
Of course if we were having quotas to reflect diversity then 87% of pundits, commentators, news readers, presenters etc would be white. Quotas are a one way street.
