If we get both these on permanent deals, all things considered I think my socks would twinge a little
Kane in League One could be immense. A midfield of him, Honeyman and Smallwood? Could do the business.
So who would you drop? Purely on form Honeyman and Smallwood are undroppable. Docherty would be better as impact imo. Or, formation change. But Grant won't do that.
I wouldn't drop anyone ATM just to fit in someone new! Of form drops etc then fine. But I wouldn't change any of them ATM!
Based on last night, I'd drop Smallwood in the next match. That Midfield's work rate and energy were as good as any that I can remember.
Purely from a fitness standpoint alone, at least one of that midfield is going to the bench on Saturday. I think we'll be seeing regular rotation nearly every game in the midfield.
Yes, it'll be Batty and rightly so. Thought he was very good last night, but he's definitely the worst out of our senior midfielders. Sitting a bit deeper suits him more, but I'm not sure playing in the Docherty/Honeyman role does at all. Hence the need for at least another midfielder.
Looks to me that we're trying to build a squad with 2 decent options for each position. Players get injured and loose form and competition for places drives performances.
So far the midfield have done a lot better then I hoped ... Honeyman has lifted his game .. Smallwood looks to be that solid enforcer and for me Docherty has been the pick of the three .. the young lads when they've been called on are doing well but we all know there will be injuries and dips in form .. having options such as Kane would not only be sensible but priceless. As for Samuelson I agree .. he needs to man up a bit.
Woodburn on a permanent seems highly unlikely, I know his career has stalled a bit, but we was Liverpool's best Academy player and you'd expect him to get far better offers than League One.
Is it? Two loans were he's struggled in both, last in L1. He's 20 now, and his chances of making it at Liverpool are all but over. Was expected to go to Sparta Rotterdam on loan, which shows the level of side in for him. I'm sure a few championship clubs would go for him, likely bottom half clubs, but then throw in the pandemic and half the clubs in the champ can't afford to spend on players. Might seem unlikely but so was Docherty tbh
A bit harsh to judge him much on last season, he got broken bones in both feet and never really got going.
I know it is. But it's still another season gone by, he's another year older and further away from their 1st team than ever before. At what point do you cash in?
Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon have left Madrid and are on their way to London to complete their moves to Tottenham.
