This is the big question. There are still a large number of people who contracted this at the start suffering from heart or lung or neurological problems months after contracting it. It's possible those heal in time; it's also possible that we end up with a generation of people with persistent health problems. People forget that most people to contract polio were asymptomatic: 90-95% either had no symptoms or mild issues like a sore throat, peripheral soreness, etc. But we don't remember polio as a mild disease.
And I believe problems associated with polio can appear late in life...decades after recovery. It will be a long time before full toll associated with Covid is clear IMO
Yeah, my great-aunt had polio as a child, and from what I understand it resulted in some muscle weakness at the time: she could walk though with a bit of difficulty, etc. Her muscles continued to atrophy and it progressed to being unable to walk without assistance in her 20s, and she spent the final 60 years of her life in a wheelchair. And that was considered primary polio, not the post-polio syndrome which appears years later.
I must admit, I'm convinced I had it in January time (all the symptoms we now know about) and Ive been suffering with intermittent chest aches and discomfort ever since.

My son’s friend (fit and in the forces) has been found to have lung and heart problems following an apparently mild bout of Covid. Not clear how serious it will be.
It's certainly possible; I had a similar experience in January where I had a fever for several days and a nasty cough, though my symptoms faded within a couple weeks. There was a pretty rowdy flu at the same time, so it may have just been that, but I'm still curious.
Social gatherings over six banned from Monday. Correctly, seeing as people are being idiotic.

The non-league football terms were due to start letting fans in this weekend. It will be interesting to see how this goes!
The decision makes sense if we are to avoid a lockdown. However, I think that it is probably just prolonging what will be a more intense period of infections.

One of my team has symptoms and wanted a test. He lives west of Cardiff and had to drive to Exeter for 6:30 this evening to have that test.

While we've been able to pull off sport with pretty good results (with the occasional exception of baseball), I still wonder if "sports is a reward for a functioning society" might have been a better approach. It's hard to get people to delay gratification, particularly for months on end, but "if we reach X by Y you can have football again, and football goes away if you stop" might have a useful carrot.
I know someone who lived in Woking and the nearest available slot they offered him was Coventry.

Probably because they're not expecting it to make much difference in itself.
As I said last night I suspect it's more of a tactic to get people re-engaged with it than anything else. Fear tactics for want of a better phrase.
