Bale goes down easily, and clearly looks for the penalty by leaving a trailing leg, but there is definitely contact and the defender definitely doesn't touch the ball. This is a penalty going by the rule book, even if he is clearly hunting for it.
Well, it does. If there was a little contact, then it's a penalty; If there was no contact at all, then it's a dive and he should be booked.
I guess it's hard to define what is meant by minimal contact. As even the smallest amount of contact is capable of ruining someone's momentum if the timing and the position of the contact are suitable.
Referee didn't spot it or he don't want send one more player off to make it 9.. He's a diver. How times we have seen his antics to get opposition player booked just diving on the wing. Hope someone like Charlie Adam will sort him out.
