Eaves and the big, sendy-offy Irish lummox in the four balls (but not in the foursomes obviously!!!) Play safe on the front nine and go for broke on the back nine if necessary. To have been made captain of this great club is a fantastic honour and something that gives me a lot of pride. I’m proud and my family are really proud – and my focus is on repaying the gaffer’s faith, along with proving to myself – and to you – that I am worthy of the shirt and the armband. Becoming captain wasn’t something that was mentioned or discussed when I first signed. I knew we had a young group that needed some experience and know-how and hopefully, I can provide that on the way to helping us to enjoy a successful season together – players, staff and supporters. I firmly believe that I am ready for the role and responsibility that comes with wearing the armband. My spell at Blackburn, through the highs and the lows, made me a better person and a better player. Hopefully, with the added responsibility here, I can really thrive off that and help the team moving forward. What type of captain do I see myself as? I’ve always been vocal on the pitch so that won’t change whatsoever. It’s about being responsible and grabbing situations by the scruff of the neck, dragging the team through difficult spells whenever and wherever required. It’s important to keep standards high – on and off the pitch – and really drive each other on. It’s also important for the lads to know that I’ll always be there for each and every one of them. The gaffer has spoken to me about the importance of getting good values in the group and helping the younger members of the squad to really to push on and improve. If they become better, we all become better. The Club becomes better and the team becomes better, which will be key to us getting the results we all want when the season gets underway. Thank you for your kind messages since I have been at the Club. Your support and backing in the coming season will be massively appreciated by us all. I didn't read that as you seem to have done. Plenty of 'us', 'we', etc. The statement was addressed to us ("To all Hull City Fans"), hence the ending. He speaks & writes really well. In fact, it shows up how utterly ****e McCann and Byrne (and Enob of course) are in their messages to fans, not that we needed further proof. Let's hope he plays & leads as well as he speaks & writes. If so, we've got a good-un. But, stuck record, 1 experienced signing and 3 young uns is nowhere near enough to replace the shed load that have left in recent months. 6 days to go till we restart. Same old.
